Chapter 5

"Where's Jess? We're gonna be late. Oh, I hope she doesn't change her mind. Kev, what if she changes her mind? What if she decides that she made a huge mistake in forgiving us and changed her mind and is mad at us again? What if……" Brian rambled on before Kevin cut him off.
"Brian, Brian. Chill out. She won't change her mind. Trust me. Now calm down, she's only a couple minutes late. You know her, she runs on "Jessica Time", we ain't got anything to worry about." Kevin walked over to the window and looked out, not really believing what he just told Brain. What if Brian's right? What if she changed her mind? We wouldn't be able to handle that. Just as Kevin finished his thought a blazer with the license plate LTL LTrel pulled into the driveway. A smile came upon his face and he told the guys it was time to go.
AJ ran out of the house and yelled shotgun as he jumped in the front seat of Jess' truck. Jess looked at him and asked him what he thought he was doing.
AJ smirked and answered, "What does it look like? I'm getting a ride with you to the radio station. You're driving right?"
Jessica was about to object but then Howie, Brian, and Kevin hopped into the backseat. She rolled her eyes, "I guess so." She turned toward Nick and Lucy, "Can you guys find a ride? I'm all full, unless you want to sit in the trunk?" She secretly hoped that they would decline although Nick and herself had ridden in the trunk of her blazer before and it was quite cozy.

"Man. Why do we have to ride in the trunk? It's Jess' truck not yours Brian. Remember?" Nick whined.
Brian glared at him jokingly for a minute before answering, "Nick, of course I know it's Jess' truck, but I did buy it. I figure I have some driving privileges. Besides, I have been saying you two need to be closer."
Nick was positive he saw a smirk on Brian's face as he hopped in the front seat. He ignored because he really didn't mind having his girlfriend in his lap. Who wouldn't want to be close to her?
"Nick, if you do that one more time I will rip your eyes right of their sockets!" A half-joking-half-frustrated Jess said slapping Nick's legs, which somehow kept squeezing her waist so it hurt just a little. She turned around to see Nick looking down at her with his big baby blues and she just melted.

Lucy looked at Nick. He better not put me in the trunk; he'll be getting an earful for sure. Lucy thought. Her thoughts must have shown in her eyes because Nick declined the offer. "Nah, Mrs. Littrell offered us her car before we knew you were coming so we'll just go in that." Jessica smiled and jumped in her truck and pulled out of the driveway. She didn't argue. Guess she'll still a little sore about the whole Lucy thing. Nick thought as he pulled out of the driveway a bit after Jess. The ride to the radio station was long and Brian and the guys didn't seem to let a moment's silence go by.
"Then, when we got to the venue, Nick decides to go all noble and tell the dancers what's going on and instead of getting mad at us they got mad at him and pulled him backstage and shoved him out the backdoor. Ohmygod, Jess, you should have seen it. There were a lot of girls out there and when they saw Nick…. Let's just say he came back with a few rips and tears and a missing shirt." Brian finished telling yet another story where they embarrass Nick. This one was just as funny as the last three. Jess looked in her rear view mirror at Brian then back at the road; she didn't want to miss her exit.
"Why do you guys pick on Nick so much? Is he still pulling pranks on you at twenty-years old?" she asked pulling into the lane she would need to be in to be on their way. Howie spoke up this time.
"OH, that boy. He may be an adult but if he wanted to be one he wouldn't put candy in your ears while you were sleeping." Jess tried to contain her laughter. She knew what a sound sleeper Howie was and picturing with candy in his ears while he was talking in his sleep, she couldn't contain her laughter any longer. Howie told her it wasn't funny but then he burst out laughing too. After they had calmed down AJ got serious.
"Jess, why won't you forgive Nick? I mean, you forgave us, why not him?" Brian, Kevin, and Howie glared at him from the backseat. Jess tensed up but kept her eyes on the road. You could feel the atmosphere change automatically at the mention of the situation concerning her and Nick. She started to chew on her bottom lip, a nervous habit she's had since she could remember. Sometimes she didn't even realize she was doing.
"Jess, I'm sorry, if you don't want to talk about…." He trailed off realizing his mistake.
"No, it's okay. I mean, I guess I know where you're coming from. Being as you guys tell each other everything." The guys winced when they heard her emphasize the word 'everything'. "But you have to understand where I'm coming from. What he did…it hurt. I never thought he would do something like that to me, let alone bring her to my mothers' house, having her stay in my room. It's too much right now. I just need time. I know he probably doesn't understand that, can you help him understand? Make him not resent me too much right now?" She pleaded. They all nodded in silent agreement. They rode the rest of the trip I silence.
