Asked how he was coping with the split, Timberlake said: "I'm cool, but I'm glad you gave me the chance to say that. I love Britney with all my heart and I will never do anything to disrespect her or degrade her."

He added: "She will always be special to me no matter what happens. She's great."

The relationship may have been thrown out along with the bathwater. In a head-spinning series of cryptic utterances, Spears -- who denied a split on March 11 -- has now signaled she's not a girlfriend, not yet a free agent. Announcing March 25 that she was not in an "intense" relationship, Spears then declared "I'm single, right now" during a taped faux wedding aired March 27 on a British talk show.

Meanwhile, at a strip club near Des Moines, Timberlake was saying pretty much the same thing. "I said, 'You can't do a private dance because of Britney,' "says Keana, a dancer at the Lumberyard, where Timberlake and his 'N Sync bandmates turned up on March 26. "He said, 'No, me and Britney are broken up.' He looked hurt" -- and opted for a game of pool instead.

So when is a breakup really a breakup? For Spears, 20, and Timberlake, 21, the clear answer -- or lack thereof -- stems from their youth, says Timberlake's mom, Lynn Harless. "They are two kids who have intense feelings for each other," she says. "Good things are intense, and bad things are the same way."

Noting that "they have hit a rough spot," Harless says that differing schedules -- Spears has been promoting her film Crossroads in Europe, while Timberlake has been on a tour of the U.S. with 'N Sync -- have proved stressful. "They aren't normal kids who can sit down and say, 'Let's talk about this.' "

Maybe they should try. In March Timberlake sparked rumors when he was spotted dirty dancing with a comely brunette at L.A.'s hip Club AD. For her part, Spears -- who was 11 when she costarred with Timberlake on Disney's new Mickey Mouse Club -- has kept busy on the Manhattan club circuit, boogying with girlfriends and sipping Evian at hot spots Lotus and Go. Returning from London March 26, she flew to Miami for a weeklong beach vacation. Will the couple, who share a home in the ritzy Mulholland Estates neighborhood of Los Angeles, reconcile? Only they know for sure. Or maybe not. Says a Spears friend: "They're in love one minute, not in love the next." Harless, for one, remains optimistic. "They are just having problems right now," she says. "We just want them both to be happy."

NSYNC bandmate Lance Bass confirmed Justin had split from Britney — who is worth an estimated £100million thanks largely to a £60million deal with soft drinks firm Pepsi. Lance, 22, said: “Britney came on the road with us right after the Grammys and they were bickering all the time. “Good times, bad times. Young couples — we’ll see how this works out.”

ONE MORE TIME FOR BRITNEY AND JUSTIN?
The world's most famous pop couple, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, are apparently back in each other's arms.According to reports, Justin initiated the reunion with a soppy phone call hoping to patch up their difficulties. It obviously worked as the pair are now spending some quality time together in LA.

Meanwhile, Britney's local church in Louisiana is encouraging her to to seek forgiveness for her sins. Her squeaky-clean image has been tarnished recently after pictures were released showing her smoking and drinking, and claims by Justin that she is no longer a virgin.

In an interview with a magazine, Bob Sheffield from the Southern Baptist Convention said: "I would have preferred it if she wore more clothes and if she had waited and had sex after marriage. But Jesus will forgive her."

Richard Ross, leader of a Christian support group called True Love Waits, said Britney will be welcomed back with open arms."The groups are full of people who have had sex and then decided to make a commitment to God until they are married. Britney will be welcomed back," he said.

OOPS! WE'RE TOGETHER AGAIN!
Britney and Justin look like they are back together after splitting up two months ago. Close friends are reported to say the couple are going to try and rekindle their relationship. They will meet this week when Britney goes to LA to shoot a video with Mike Myers. Justin will also be there, and they plan to spend some time together.

Justin has apologised to Britney after he told a fellow passenger on a plane that there was no way she was a virgin. The pair have been friends since their days together on 'Disney Club' and their families have always insisted that their relationship would work out.

Britney ... 'completely off'
IT is a romance that has had more ups and downs than Blackpool’s Big One – and now it looks like BRITNEY SPEARS and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE have come off the rails again.

I told last week how the pair got back together after Justin made a grovelling phone call to the pop princess. But it seems Britney, above, is not too pleased by Justin’s friendship with dancer JENNA DEWAN. Justin and NSYNC dancer Jenna became close while he and Britney were “on a break”.

But the singer was furious when she heard the two had met up for dinner when he was supposed to be back with her. Justin and Jenna even flew to Miami last week for Janet Jackson’s 36th birthday bash featuring nude dancers. A pal of Britney says: “She has told Justin if he wants to stick with her he can never see Jenna again. “When he said he could not promise that, Britney called the whole thing off. It is now completely over – and Britney is totally over him.”

The pair, who have been an item on and off since they were 12, last split in March – saying that they never had time to see each other.

Britney's New Song
This last Thursday I was at the Los Angeles concert and when Britney came out to sing her INAGNYAW, she sang a piece of a song she said she just wrote a few days ago. Oh, and by the way, she came out with a Lakers jersey with Kobe Bryant's #8, but it said Spears on the back instead. Ok, now back to the song. She said she wrote the song because of how overwhelmed she has been feeling lately. So she started to sing the song, which had a blues feel to it. I tried to remember the song, but when she hit one line, I was so shocked I forgot everything else. The line 'You see it was a mistake but it's too late because now you're GONE.' Sound familiar?

I know, gone is a common word, but she said it the way that NSYNC says it in their song, 'Gone.' The whole song had the same flow, but the second she hit the word 'Gone', it was obvious she was making a reference. I am sure other people have noticed this at the other concerts, so that is why I am surprised that it hasn't been mentioned. So!...maybe, this is Britney's way of telling her fans that it really is over between her and Justin.

Jusitn...Too Good?
I was watching the ET for MTV yesterday, and there was a clip about the celebs going to basketball games. They showed a clip of Justin with the reporter for ET asking him where Britney was. He made a face like he couldn't give two shits.....looked around, and then said he has no idea where she'd be. What a sweetheart. I don't care about their relationship, but I think he needs a swift kick in the butt so he knows he's not as hot as he thinks he is.

The Break-Up Blues
Is Britney Spears' breakup with Justin Timberlake affecting her work? A backstage source at the belly-baring singer's concerts says that the usually spunky, upbeat Spears has been in a "deep funk."
Wouldn't you be?

"SHE HAS BEEN really depressed due to the breakup and just wants this tour to be over," says the insider, who says that some of Spears' handlers are upset that she hasn't been interacting with fans more.
I see their point, but she can't be Mary sunshine 24/7. She just broke up with her boyfriend...PUBLICALLY. And the press hasn't helped her much. [hint, hint]

"There were even points during the show when she would not bother to lip-sync to the track the audience was hearing. . . as if she did not even care."

The insider says that "all ties are now severed" with her former sweetie because last week Spears bought Timberlake's share of the house they lived in.

But, the source adds brightly, "Maybe she'll be able to sing about her breakup in her next album."
