This sperm whale's piece of skin clearly shows marks left by unusually large suckers
Oceans. By definition, an ocean is a vast body of water. In this definition, we have to highlight the word "vast". This is the best word to definite the term ocean, and the best way to say why so many reports of marine monsters were left without explanation.
Among them, there is the Giant Squid, generally related to the genus Architeuthis, that is called in the scandinavian countries Kraken. Even if they are officially recognized by many scientists, some of them still deny it, so it is still considered as a cryptid. But, contrairy to many other cryptids, there are strong evidences of them.
Back in 1878, a floating mass was found on water by 3 fishermen from Timber Thickle, on November 2 more precisely. After some investigations, they found that a giant squid had run aground. It was however still alive, and the fishers, using their anchor, snagged the body and made it fast to a tree. At the creature's dead, it was measured, and then chopped up to become dog's food. The body was 20 feet long from tail to the beak; very long tentacles were there, the longests measuring an incredible 35 feet long, tipped with 4 inches suckers.
Other incidents with squids show them eating, or trying to. A Russian whaler saw in 1965 a 40 tons sperm whale fighting against an enormous squid. None of the fighters won: the whale was found floating on the water, with the squid's severed head in its stomach and some tentacles still wrapped around the whale's body.
Another case features the Brunswick, a 15000 tons auxilary tanker of the Norwegian navy. By 3 times, a giant squid attacked the tanker, deliberately, taking it for food. The monster was seen pacing the ship, then suddently turning to run into the ship, wrapping it with its tentacles. Each time however the tanker "won"; the squid, unable to take a good grip on the ship, fell into the ship's propeller.
All this is enough to convince people, with all the squids pieces found in sperm whales' stomaches. It seems that sometimes the whale is an attacker, and some other times it is an attacked: this is the fight between probably the two largests predators of the deep sea.
