New-Zealand is reputed to have a particular wildlife, like Australia. So particular that there should be GIANT ostriches, the Moas. In fact, they existed in some past times, but were all killed by the Maoris, the natives of the country. But since, reports of sightings of Moa still subsist, especially in the southern island. There are 2 possible species of Moa: a 2-3 meters tall specie, scientifically named Dinornis maximus, and smaller ones of less than a meter, the moa-roas, Megalapterix ou Anomalopterix, more possible than the big ones. Reports of moa-roa are more credibles than the ones of Giant Moas.

In 1993, Paddy Freaney photographed a moa. The photo he took is so bad that it's easy to talk about hoax, since the description and the photo don't fit at all. Freaney said that the animal had a long thin neck, of about one meter. It look very short and fat on the photo! The shape look more to the one of a dog for me, since front legs are easy to see. If you want to see the photo, go here.

The mystery isn't over, but we can't count on the photo of Freaney to get the key of the mystery.
