In the Austrian and Swiss Alps, a fabled creature is said to live. If it really exist, the Tatzelwurm (claw-worm) would become the largest european reptile. It have many differents regional names. Swiss zoologist Johann Jakob Scheuchzer reported many sightings with a "serpent with a cat-like head". In these times (1700's) people who saw the animal described it as a dragon. Most recent sighting shows a more realistic shape: a long body with 4 legs, a short tail, a wide mouth. It can leap great distances, doing a while in the airs.

Among the sightings of it, there is the case of photographer that found one while going through the Alps in 1928. A photo came out in 1934, but was considered as a hoax without credibility.

France and Spain also reported this kind of creatures lurking in their region. Explanations goes from the Heloderma family animal to the possibly european relative to the Megalobatrachus, the Asian Giant Salamander.
