Theatre of Tragedy have now proved that they are even better than before, if possible!
Aégis is a blend of everything they have previously done, except perhaps for some of the
weirder stuff from 'A Rose for the Dead', but I certainly do not miss that... Especially
not when you see the result on this brilliant album!
The line-up:

Raymond I. Rohonyi: Vocals
Eirik T. Saltro: Bass Guitar
Hein Frode Hansen: Drums
Lorentz Aspen: Keyboards
Frank Claussen: Guitars
Tommy Olsson: Guitars
It all starts with a great song, Cassandra. It settles the expectations for the album
to higher levels, expectations that Theatre of Tragedy make sure that they live up to
perfectly. The whole album is a bit more calm and clean, dreamy and melancholy than ever
before. And it is perfect, or very close to perfect, with a few exceptions.
The third song and the last song are not very good, but with those two exceptions, the
album has it all. Clean singing with a marvellous atmosphere, distorted vocals, deep,
dreamy bass guitars that stay in the background and just follow the song in a very
intelligent way; getting the listeners' straight attention. There are no guitar solos,
which also helps the music to achieve the dreamy factor and no disturbance through a
whining guitar. The rhythm guitars and the bass guitars are played in the best way possible.
Songs like Aede, Poppaea, Lorelei and many others are unlike anything I have ever heard
before. Similar songs may be produced, but not with the sensitivity and genious of Theatre
of Tragedy. Quite unique, and with many feelings involved.
Total rating: 9 out of 10.
