Lea Salonga

Lea is most well known for her portrayal of ‘Kim’ in the West End (1989) and Broadway (1991) hit musical ”Miss Saigon”, for which she received the Laurence Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critic’s Circle and Tony Awards.

Lea made her theatrical debut at the age of seven in Repertory Philippines’ production of “The King And I” and has since appeared in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The Rose Tattoo”, “Annie” (as Annie), “The Sound Of Music” (as Brigitta), “The Goodbye Girl”(as Lucy) and “The Fantasticks”.

Lea has also recorder the singing voices of ‘Jasmine’ in the Walt Disney Animated movie “Aladdin” and ‘Fa Mulan’ in the Disney movie “Mulan”.

In 1993 Lea took on the role of Éponine on Broadway, a role she reprised in the 1995 Tenth Anniversary concert. In the same year she released her self-titled international debut album with Atlantic Records, which has gone ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ in areas of South East Asia. Lea also played the role of ‘Eliza Doolittle’ in Repertory Philippines’ “My Fair Lady” and the role of the ‘Witch’ in Singapore Repertory theatre’s production of “Into the Woods”.

Lea has performed in concert in the Philippines as well as at the Town Hall (New York), the Hollywood Bowl and the Universal Amphitheatre (Los Angeles). She has opened for such artists as Stevie Wonder and the late Frank Sinatra during their concerts in Manila. She recently returned to London to perform in a special benefit concert called Hey Mr. Producer! along with such stars as Jonathan Pryce, Bernadette Peters, Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, Ruthie Henshall and Philip Quast.
