Chapter One
"Sir...we have circled this system for quite some time...it may be possible that-" The young lieutenant was cut off when he saw the dangerous look in the commander's eyes.
"No, Lieutenant....she's still in this system....she would not go too far....not if she wants to repay a debt." The commander answered. The lieutenant showed a bit of doubt on his face, but decided to change the subject.
"Why are we even chasing after this girl....I am sorry, Sir, but it makes no sens-" The lieutenant started, but was once again cut off by a look from the commander.
"It makes perfect sense....the Lord's highest guard demanded that we find the girl.....would you prefer being dead?" The commander asked, eyes narrowing.
"Yes, Sir - I mean: No, Sir...." The lieutenant stuttered. The commander then turned to another officer.
"I want you to contact all the bounty hunters in this area.......I have a job for them...."
"Ha! Give it up! You're finished!" A young man, at least in his teens, shouted with a smug look on his face. The young man had short dark black hair, which was cut close to his head with small pieces of hair falling onto his forehead. He was wearing a red muscle shirt with black pants and dark brown shoes. All in all, a fairly handsome young man. The person he was gloating down to, a girl about his age, spat some blood from her mouth before standing with a smirk on her face.
"You really think that that attack would keep me down?" She asked, then was suddenly behind him, delivering a devastating kick to his spine. As he fell forward, she fired a ki blast to his back, knocking him further away.
The girl was small compared to the young man, even though she was the same age. She wore her long, smooth hair in a high ponytail. Her outfit similar to the young man's, though she wore a light blue tank top with black shorts that went to the middle of her thigh, and brown shoes.
The girl stopped her onslaught and waited as the young man stood. She then charged at him with amazing speed, but before she reached him, he jumped out of the way, and quickly fired a ki blast at her as she passed him by.
The girl, hit in the back with the ki blast, stumbled to a stop some three meters away. The girl spun around, firing her own attack at him. The boy (not really a boy, but ya know not a man yet) fired his own to counter it. When both of the blasts hit, the boy charged at the girl, throwing his fist where her face should have been, but the girl had crouched down and then swept the boy's feet out from under him.
"Oof!" He yelled out as he fell to the ground. He looked up and saw that the girl was grinning down at him.
"Had enough?" She asked, holding out her hand, which the boy took and stood up.
"Not nearly enough for a day's training." He answered while brushing the dirt off of him. The girl smirked, brushing a string of stray hair out of her face.
"Well, I thought we could use a break, if that's okay with you...of course." She answered. The boy nodded, sitting back on the ground, this time with more grace. The girl sat down beside him.
"Well, actually....those were only beginner moves....heh..." The boy said. The girl looked at him, eyes narrowed, but was not actually upset.
"You know.....you can be a real pain in the ass, Kayin..." She informed him. The boy called Kayin smirked to himself, folding his arms over his chest.
"Yes...well....you aren't exactly a perfect angel, Angel." He retorted. The girl, Angel, frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She demanded. Kayin ginned.
"Nevermind....I don't want to know." She said when Kayin opened his mouth to speak. Kayin gave a small pout before grinning again.
"Hey, guess what?" Kayin asked her, as she chose to lie on the ground, looking up at the sky.
"Even though that's supposed to be my question....what?" She answered. Kayin frowned a bit but continued anyway.
"Well.....there was talk about that myth....ya know....about that planet that could allow anyone to live there? I don't get it....why do people say that a planet, which is dead, use to support life? I don't think it's really possible...." He said as Angel closed her eyes.
"Yeah.....I wonder what made the planet go dead. How, why, and when are the three main questions I have." She said. Kayin looked down at her before hitting his forehead with his palm.
"Not you too.....I thought you were going to agree with me that the planet never had life!" He said. Angel opened her eyes, slightly raising an eyebrow.
"Oh? And you would know that, how?" She asked. Kayin gave her a dirty look.
"How do you know if there was? You've never been there!" Kayin shouted. Angel smirked, shrugging.
"You never know...." She answered. Kayin sighed.
"Sometimes I don't get you...." He said. Angel laughed at the comment.
"That's the point, Genius." She said, closing her eyes again. Kayin just shook his head, before continuing.
"Ya know....I also heard that there are some bounty hunters looking for someone.....do you know what that's all about?" He asked, looking down at Angel.
"What are you? Mr. Gossip King? No, I haven't heard about that." Angel answered, not opening her eyes. Kayin let out a laugh, shaking his head.
"Well....Johazon said that-" He started to say.
"Johazon?" Angel asked, opening her eyes again. Kayin shrugged.
"Yea.....so?" He asked, while Angel grinned, putting her hands under her head.
"Why are you getting your resources from Johazon? Ya know how he feels about you...." She said. Kayin frowned, looking sick.
"I know....don't remind me......but you're forgetting about Ashelia..." Kayin said, grinning again as Angel now held the look of disgust on her face.
"Right......let's not forget her...." Angel said, closing her eyes again. (yes, this is meant how it is sounding.....^.^)
"Well, anyway....Johazon told me that the bounty hunters were hired by the Ikkaniajin to find someone that escaped from a raid......I don't remember what planet he said the person came from, or their name.....'cause right after he.....uh....kinda.....tried to.....uh....-" Kayin's stuttering was cut off by Angel's laughter.
"And the Great Gossip King is now the love of Johazon's life!" She yelled out, while laughing. Kayin fired a ki blast at her, which hit her in the stomach, but since it was a small blast it didn't cause any damage.
"Watch it, Angel....," Kayin warned. Angel looked up at him, grinning.
"Yes, Sir!" She shouted, mock saluting him. Kayin then grinned.
"Get on your feet soldier!" He ordered. Angel then jumped up, saluting again.
"On my feet, SIR!" She yelled, resisting the urge to fall over laughing.
"Turn left, soldier!" Kayin ordered. Angel turned to the left, a big grin on her face.
"Turned left, SI-Gah!" She yelled, dropping out of her joking mode, smile disappearing, when she saw a strange creature in front of her.
The creature was short, had black, wrinkled skin, and it also had red, glowing eyes. It seemed to have no nose, or ears, but it was obvious that it did. The clawed hands didn't go unnoticed either. Each hand had a set of five clawed fingers that looked as if they could kill with one strike. The little creature looked up to Angel, cocking its head to the side.
Both Angel and Kayin stood ready for a struggle if there would be one. The creature seemed to not notice Kayin, though, as it stared right at Angel's face. It then gave a sharp toothed gin.
"You smell of one of His kind..." The creature said, in a raspy voice. Angel shuddered, the voice was almost like nails on a chalkboard, only it was moire quiet and more annoying.
"What do you want, creature?" Kayin demanded. The creature turned slowly towards the boy.
"You are not of His kind....do not interfere..." It said, turning slowly back to Angel. Kayin's glare was oblivious to the little creature as he studied Angel.
"You are His kind.....you must come with me...." It said. Angel's eyes narrowed.
"No....I'm not leaving.....who are you? What do you want? And what the hell are you talking about?" She demanded. The creature's eyes widened at this, seeming almost pleased.
"The one of His kind is suspicious....'tis a good thing!" The creature shouted. The shout was nothing more than a raise of pitch in his voice. The creature suddenly went serious, its rasping breathing becoming faster.
"You are one of His kind.....one of the lost....I have come to take you to the one who has killed others of His kind." It said. Angel's puzzlement was apparent as she eyes narrowed more.
"One of the lost of what? One of whose kind?" Angel demanded. The creature raised its small, skinny arms to the sky.
"The last of the Earth-born!" It shouted. Kayin winced at the sound of the creature's voice.
"Earth? The planet that is in that legend? It's not possible! It's just a myth!" Kayin shouted. The creature's intense eyes fell on him for a moment.
"'Tis possible.....I have seen some of the last of the Earth-born....I have seen ones who have seen the once rich land of Earth slowly die and become forgotten." The creature said, lowering its gaze. Kayin shook his head.
"But it's not possible for Angel to have come from Earth!" He yelled. The creature brought his eyes up to Kayin.
"She smells of one of the lost! The last of His kind! 'Tis possible!" The creature yelled back, teeth bared.
"Why do you want me?" Angel shouted, to distract the creature, who seemed ready to attack Kayin. The creature turned back to Angel, forgetting about the now fuming Kayin.
"Hired to find you....many have been searching a long time......They want you," It said, pointing a clawed finger at Angel. "For special reasons.....but I will not take you immediately.....no...."
Kayin and Angel exchanged glances, confused why this creature was not going to take action against them. They didn't realized that the creature was not finished with his statement.
"I first want a battle.....no non-Earth-born.....only you," It pointed to Angel again, grinning. "And me."
