The Life of Yamacha

By: Celey

Yamacha's Childhood

Things were tough in Yamacha's family. His mom had left him and his dad. His dad became rather sad, but was determined to make sure Yamacha grew to be a happy boy. Each day, Yamacha's dad set off to work to get money so that they could keep on paying the rent for the house. Yamacha would go a little ways into the woods and hunt for food. His father had taught him a bit about fighting and had warned him not to go too far and that if he ran into a bigger creature that he should run straight home. Yamacha walked around in the woods, his hands in his pockets and his little face staring up at the sky, thoughtfully.

'Hmm.. what shall we have to eat, today? I know! Fish sounds good!' he thought.

He ran through the woods and stopped at a lake. He picked up a small fishing pole that his father had made for him a little while back. Yamacha always put the fishing pole next to the lake so he wouldn't lose it.

'I'm so smart!' he thought to himself, smiling happily.

He reached into his pocket and grabbed a small dead frog. He tied the dead frog onto the line and then threw the line out far into the lake. He waited patiently...

Tug. Tug! Tug! Tug! YANK!

Yamacha quickly got up and began the fierce battle of trying to get the fish to shore. Eventually, he succeeded in bring a nice large fish to the shore. He squealed in delight.

"Now to get something for dessert! I know just the thing, too!" he exclaimed.

He carried the fish above his head as he rushed to an area where many berry bushes grew. He placed the fish onto his shoulder and then reached into the hollow of a tree. Yamacha pulled out a basket and then went from bush to bush gathering up berries. Once, he was done he placed the basket onto his head and carried the large fish with his two hands. He walked home, whistling a merry little tune. Yamacha was just about to exit the woods when suddenly a little girl ran into him. The little girl fell over and Yamacha almost lost his balance.

"Oww.. hey! Watch where you're going, mister!" the little girl scolded.

Yamacha's eyes widened.

"Your a.. your a....... Oh no! A GIRL!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!" he screamed.

He quickly turned around and ran off into another direction. His father had warned him about girls. His father had told him that girls were vicious monsters that enjoyed preying onto guys and taking everything away from them. Yamacha had been told that girls were to be avoided at all costs. He began speeding up, afraid that the girl was chasing him and that he might get captured. After a while, he looked back and realized that he had lost his basket of berries, not only that, but the girl was not chasing him. He was far away from the girl, now.

'Phew.. I escaped.. man.. that was scary,' he thought.

He stopped and looked around.

"Wha? Where am I? I've never been in this part of the woods before...," he said aloud.

It was quite dark and there were noises sounding all around Yamacha. He gulped for a moment.

RRRRRROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRR!!!!

Yamacha jumped and turned around. Standing right in front of him was a gigantic grizzly bear. His eyes widened once again.

He looked at his fish and somewhere in his mind something told him that the fish would provide a good distraction for the bear while he made a clean getaway. Yamacha nodded twice and then threw the fish at the bear. As soon as the fish hit the ground Yamacha made his escape. He panted as he ran, for he was getting tired. His vision blurred for a moment.

"Huh?" he murmured.

Woooooooosh.

Yamacha had ran straight off a cliff without realizing it for a moment. He quickly wrapped his arms around himself and shut his eyes, tightly.

He screamed.

Yamacha was only a child and as a child he was not prepared for facing death. He was not ready. He only knew of one thing to do and that was to scream.

'Help me.. help me... calm down... help.. relax.. help!!'...

These were the thoughts running through Yamacha's head. A voice continuely whispered for him to calm down.

SPLASH!

Yamacha landed in a river below the cliff. The currents moved him around and dragged him under several times. He tried frantically to stay above water.

Slam. Crack...

The currents threw him into a jagged rock. Upon impact he hit his head... hard. He fell into unconsciousness. Normally, if an ordinary child were to hit his/her head on a rock with such tremendous force it would have killed him/her. Yamacha, however, was not an ordinary child. Something greater was in store for him and destiny needed him to live. The swift currents of the river carried him far, far away. Surprisingly, the river was alot calmer than before and the unconscious Yamacha was able to stay afloat. Eventually, he drifted to shore. He was now laying down on the ground, the river's waves occasionally splasing at him. Yamacha remained unconscious.

*Sniff.. sniff*

Three wolves looked up. They had recently been fishing for food. A strange scent had found its way under their noses. The animals cautiously followed the smell.

*This is foolish.. who knows what it could belong to..* A jet black wolf barked.

*Its a very curious smell... smells kind of... familiar...* A gray wolf with white streaks barked back.

The third wolf, brown with black paws, ears, and tail did not bark anything to the other two wolves.

The wolves came upon a small boy. The jet black wolf's fur raised and it went into an attacking position. It snarled, fiercely.

*The smell belongs to this human!! We must destroy it before it wakes up and causes a disturbance!* The black wolf growled.

The odd brown wolf's eyes seemed to widen, slightly. The wolf walked up to the boy and began sniffing him. Its eyes widened even more.

*Wait! We mustn't destroy this one...* The once silent brown-looking wolf barked.

*Why not?*The grayish and the black wolf barked back.

*Can't you smell it? This boy has the same smell as the boy who saved our ancestors so many moons ago!! Its obvious that this boy must be a descendant of the boy from so long ago...* The brownish wolf growled.

The jet black wolf narrowed its eyes.

*Humans are all the same.. that was back in the old days.. this is now.. we have to destroy it or it will destroy us!* It snarled.

The gray wolf with white streaks simply sighed and bared its teeth.

*He's right.. the smell is similar.. and this human is only a puppy... he wouldn't be able to survive on his own.. I say we take him in.. who knows? He might be of usefulness, later..* It barked, wildly.

The brownish wolf looked as if it was smirking at the pure black wolf. The black wolf merely growled. The grayish wolf picked the little boy up carefully with its mouth and followed the other two wolves back to the den...

..... !

Yamacha tossed and turned on the rocky ground. He was thinking, yet he was not fully conscious. He was drifting in his subconscious. He should have had words to express his thoughts, but for some reason, there were no words. Just images.. very blurred images. Yamacha did not know where he was. He did not know who he was or what he was. A clearer picture came up. It was a picture of a small girl, smiling, and then; suddenly, the girl turned into a vicious monster with protruding fangs and sharp claws. Yamacha shuddered and slowly opened his eyes. He was surrounded by strange-looking creatures. They barked and Yamacha instantly was able to tell what they were saying, for he didn't know of a language of his own and the first language he picked up was the language the creatures were speaking.

*Where am I?! And.. umm.. what are we?* Yamacha barked at them, turning red, slightly.

The creatures' ears perked up and they looked at Yamacha in surprise.

*We are wolf.* One of the wolves barked.

*And you're human.. I don't care if you found out how to talk like us.. now prepa---...* A rather dark wolf started barking but was interrupted when another wolf bit its tail.

The dark wolf howled in pain. The other wolf just shook its head and let go of the dark wolf's tail. The wolf turned to Yamacha.

*You're a wolf, too... and this is the den where our pack lives..* The wolf barked.

*Oh... I'm a wolf..* Yamacha yipped, silently.

The wolves were convinced that Yamacha should stay with them. A few of the wolves figured that the human did not have any memories of his past life because it was very unnatural for a human to learn an animal language unless they knew not of any languages at all. Other wolves didn't seem to care. A certain jet black wolf was too busy thinking of ways to get Yamacha alone so it could rip his head off. Other than that, Yamacha was accepted into the wolf pack and was taken care of by them for a few years...
