Goku's Soulmate

A few weeks after Goku's return on Earth, after the Freezia's saga, during a nice night of summer…

Goku was flying in the sky. He was angry, furious. He needed to move to forget what he just discovered, he had to unwind on someone that would, maybe not understand, surely would accept a fight in the middle of the night…

He remembered Chichi's eyes, full of tenderness... Her surprise when she saw him… Goku accelerated again, the heart ready to explode. Chichi, laying on their bed, Yamcha asleep against her, her, brushing tenderly his hair… Goku hadn't heard what she had said; he had left immediately, deeply hurt in his feelings. He had only heard her voice when he had ran out of the house :

- Goku! Wait!

But he didn't wait.

Bulma woke up because of the noise. She recognized the gravity room's sounds and turned over, muttering about Vegeta training so late. Then she remembered that she had seen him going to the shower and sat down on the bed, wondering why he had returned training. She heard some screams and recognized Goku's voice. Surprised and a little angry, she walked to the gravity room and opened the door without any warning. Vegeta fell onto his back right at her feet and Goku appeared at the other side of the room. Both were panting very heavily.

- What are you doing? asked Bulma, fistss on hips, unaware that she was only wearing a little pink nightdress…

Goku fell onto his knees, head low, didn't answer. He looked so dark, so hurt that she felt sorry for him, without really knowing why. Vegeta got up and looked at her one second.

- That moron came and wanted to fight. But I think it's over now.

He left, not looking at the two others, and walked again to the shower. Bulma looked at him until he disappeared and then turned to Goku.

- Hmm… Goku… I don't know what your problem is, but if you want to talk about it, I'll listen.

Goku didn't react and Bulma tried to sound sweeter.

- Goku, you can talk to me. But I can't walk in with that gravity… Please, turned it off for me and then I'll help you.

Goku sighed deeply, slowly got up and walked to the control main. He looked at the numerous buttons for a moment and finally turned off the gravity. Bulma came close to him, put a hand on his arm.

- Come with me. I'm gonna make some tea and you'll tell me what's up with you.

Goku looked totally devastated. Bulma put a cup of tea in front of him and sat down beside him, respecting his silence. He took the cup and began to drink, but the taste was so bad that he quickly put the cup back on the little table. Bulma did too, noticing once more how disgusting her tea was, and turned her face to Goku.

- So, what's going on? Why were you fighting against Vegeta in the middle of the night?
- …
- Goku, you can tell me. I'm your friend, right? Come on…
- Chichi… She… She was… With… She was with Yamcha… On our bed…

Bulma, caught off guard, was even more surprised to hear a long and painful groan from Goku's mouth. Suddenly, she didn't recognize him. He was always smiling, carefree, happy… And now, so devastated, so in pain… He hid his face in his hands, devastated.

- Goku… I'm sure they didn't… You must be wrong, Chichi isn't that kind of girl.
- I saw her! She... ....
- She is so in love with you, despite everything that happened! She is the most faithful woman I know! I can't imagine her cheating on you like that!
- So what were they doing?
- I don't know… But it can't be what you're thinking!
- Carot, you're a real bastard.

Bulma turned her face to the door and saw Vegeta, only wearing black boxers, a towel thrown over one shoulder.

- Vegeta! It's not the time for your…
- Shut up you, said Vegeta, walking up to his eternal rival's seat.

Goku looked up at him, but didn't say a word. Vegeta snorted before saying:

- Carot, I don't know why I'm telling you that... Maybe because you're the only Saiyan left with me… Anyway, Bulma is right when she said that your female…
- His wife, grumbled Bulma.
- Your wife, whatever, isn't cheating you. If I can believe drunk Earthlings, that woman waited for you all her life, whatever happened.

Bulma reddened: she was the drunk Earthling. Some days after Nameks' departure, she organized a party and before it ended, she was completely drunk. She went into Vegeta's bedroom, tried to kiss him but finally cried on his shoulders and told him all kind of things, like poor Chichi's life or Lunch's crush on Tenshinhan, even if Vegeta didn't care and didn't know who Lunch was…

- Listen to me Carot, continued Vegeta. That woman is your soulmate. For a Saiyan, a soulmate is the person who will love you forever, no matter what happens, whatever you may do. She did that for you. And you too, you will love her forever, even if you don't know it. I think you two are the perfect example of soulmates… In the old tale, even if one dies, the other won't love anyone else, but will only wait to rejoin his love in Hell, but for you I suppose it would be Heaven…
- It's such a cute story! exclaimed Bulma, totally charmed by the story. Who's your soulmate, Veggie?!
- Don't ever call me like that! Stupid female… I don't have soulmate and I will never have one.
- Are you sure about that?
- …

Vegeta walked to the door, but stopped before leaving the living room.

- Carot… You and that Earthling are soulmates, like I told you. Return to her, it's the best thing you can do.

Then he left. Bulma blinked two times, thinking how handsome Vegeta was and how sweet he could be when he wanted to. Then she came back to the present.

- But Vegeta might be wrong, said Goku with a low voice.
- Stop saying stupid things, Goku! I believe Vegeta, it's a too cute story from him, it can only be true. So I want you to go back to her and listen to what she has to say.
- And what if she…
- She didn't, Goku. Can't you trust her? Or at least give her a chance?

Goku thought about it for a moment and finally got up.

- You and Vegeta are right. I'll return to her and listen to her… And I'll see afterwards.
- I'm sure you worry for nothing. Go, now.
- Yeah… Thank you, Bulma.
- It's nothing! I'm your friend, I'm there for you, even in the middle of the night.

Chichi was sitting at the kitchen table, crying her eyes out. Goku was gone since a too long moment to come back, now… She had lost him again, but in a more cruel way than ever, because he was alive, and on Earth, and he was angry at her, he was deeply hurt because of her, he wouldn't come back...

She was half asleep when she heard the door opening. She quickly stood and saw Goku stepping into the kitchen.

- You're back! I'm so sorry, Goku! Yamcha was drunk and he came here and I couldn't leave him like that, so I offered to let him spend the night here and I laid him on our bed, but he started to cry because Bulma left him again and I was just comforting him, I swear, and then he fell asleep! I didn't cheat on you! Goku… Do you believe me?!

He saw her eyes shinning with tears, ready to cry again, he read all of her love, all of her fear, all of her anxiety... She loved him, only him and forever, he really learnt it at this moment.

- Of course I believe you!

He opened his arms and Chichi clung to him, crying.

- I was so scared… she whispered, her face against Goku's shirt. I thought you would never come back…
- I thought I wouldn't, but… Now, I know I can trust you no matter what happens and… I want you to know that I love you.
- I love you too!
- I know…

He tenderly brushed her hair, until he realized that she was asleep in his arms. He smiled, lifted her and walked to their bedroom. He saw Yamcha on the bed and hesitated a moment. Then he laid his wife on the bed, slowly undressed her and tucked her up. Then he took Yamcha in his arms and installed him in the living room, on the couch. He returned to his bedroom, but decided to go check on Gohan before.

The boy's bedroom was perfectly clean, as usual, but full of books and school's stuff. On the desk, Goku saw Piccolo's clothes and on the floor, beside the bed, the Namek's shoes. Gohan was deeply asleep in his bed, snoring softly. Goku looked at him a moment, touched by the soft innocence of his son. He left after running his fingers through the messy dark hair of the boy.

He laid down beside Chichi. Charmed by her sleeping beauty, he didn't dare move and spent the night just looking at her, unable to take his eyes off her.

In morning, Chichi opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was Goku's face, full of love and admiration, tenderly smiling to her. She knew that smile even if she had only seen it once. It had been there after the first night they had spent together, when she awoke… She smiled back.

- Hi, she said softly.
- Hi. You are so… Beautiful…

A moment passed, they didn't say a word and only stared at each other, while birds outside were chirping happily. Chichi wished it would last forever. This was a new Goku and she just loved him. But suddenly Gohan broke the charm by opening the door, panicked.

- Mom! Dad! Yamcha is in the living room, he just threw up and he smells weird!
