Viridian City

Viridian City has a Pokémon Mart, a Pokémon Center and a Gym. Gyms are where Pokémon trainers usually hang out, but this one is strangely empty. When you visit other towns, you'll be able to challenge local trainers, but for now you''l have to content with just looking around.

1. Pokémon Center

2. Viridian City Gym

3. Pokémon Mart

Special Delivery

The first time you visit the Pokémon Mart in Viridian City, you won't actually be able to buy anything. The Pokémon Mart clerk will give you a package to take to Prof. Oak. Deliver the package to get Prof. Oak's ivention the Pokédex. The Pokédex is a portable computer that you can use to store your data on all the Pokémon you have seen or captured. Now return to Viridian City and buy some Poké Balls. If you plan on staying in the area between Pallet Town and Viridian City to build experience, don't bother buying any special medicines just yet. Once you decide to head north to Pewter City, buy at least a couple of antidotes (which will cure any poison) for the road.

Note:

Pick up Prof. Oak's package from the Pokémon Mart in Viridiann City. Take it back to Pallet Town and give it to him. He'll give you his new invention in return. (Pokédex)

Welcome to the Pokémon Center

If you ever need help, the Pokémon Center will be the place to go. There are branch offices in most cities, and they'll provide your Pokémon with free medical treatment. You'll also be able to use their computers to access your PC at home, Prof. Oak's PC, and Someone's PC. You can use these PCs to store extra items and Pokémon to receive an evaluation on your progress from Prof. Oak. You can carry only six Pokémon at a time.

Notes:

1. Each Pokémon Center has a PC you can use to access other PCs. If you access Prof. Oak's PC, he'll evaluate your progess

2. You'll meet some interesting people in Viridian City, but you don't have to take what they say very seriosly.

3. There are a few areas around here you won't be able to reach until later in the game.

4. When you return to Pallet Town, be sure to stop by Gary's house. Despite what he said earlier, his sister will give you a map to take with you.
