| MOVIE MANIA !! The problem with places like Kottayam is that there is little else to do for entertainment apart from the magical ( often pathetic ! ) world of movies. And the Priyans left everyone behind in sampling the offerings of the five debilitated theatres in town,and ofcourse-Arpookkara Rajees, Kudayampady Menaka, Athirampuzha, Ettumanoor, Pala and even Ernakulam. At the peak of the movie mania ( period between 2nd and 4th year MBBS ), no film in town would be left without a representative of the lodge seeing it and sharing his "valued" opinions with the rest. But some Priyans were known to sacrifice their sanity for 3hrs despite knowing beforehand that the film was a dud ! Films bring to mind that esteemed film critic of Priya - Sunil. With a weakness for Kamal and Spielberg movies and a pathological hatred for Shekhar Kapur, Chatti's strong views put him in many a tight spots. And not to forget that walking encyclopedia of movie trivia - Ganesh Soman. Name any Malayalam movie and Ganesh has seen it- AT LEAST TWICE !! On some cherished ocassion, Priyans would go on preplanned film exercises, with reserved tickets and ready vehicles. Notable among these were "Vidheyan + Sopanam, Independence Day, Indian, Air Force One (Pala) and Titanic (EKM)". And then there were those instant decisions that had the Priyans "rush" to the theatres, like "Mazhayethum Mumpae" ( in pouring rain to Pala ! ), "Kashmeeram" (on announcement of dates of the 1st MB exams), "Rakshakan" (again pouring rain) and "Duplicate" (to Pala at 9PM for the 2nd show ! ). Also remember Priyans' first 2nd show outing together - "Paithrukam". Well, as they say, THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE THE SHOW BUSINESS !! |
