FOOD FOR THOUGHT... As said earlier, KP Hussain was not one to risk running a mess at Priya. But luckily for him and unluckily for the Priyans, there existed in close proximity two, nay, three of the "finest" eateries run by highly "enterprising" men. We shall deal with them, again in alphabetical order: Hotel AMBILI Owned and run by Ambili chettan (who else?), Ambili chechi n' their two sons (Hari n' Sree), this moony stall served food that, on a better day, wouldn't abuse your taste buds. But what made Ambili special were the accompaniments - most notable of which was an intoxicated chettan's volley of blistering sweet words at family, punctuated with an innocent - "Ennannae ?". Then there was the weekly specials and the coliform enriched drinks. But it was considered the lesser evil by most Priyans and enjoyed high appraisal ratings (especially when there was something good on TV!!). Keerthi COFFEE BAR The absence of meals made this place a neutral and harmless grazing ground for hungry Priyans in search of a quickie. But even this Milma Booth had its characters - the most notable of whom was the ageing, wizened and expressionless Pilla chettan who answered every query with a typical grunt. But more interesting than the people who ran the place were those who'd gather there in the mornings for their daily round of gossip, namely Mammachan, Aashan, Peethambaran and the like. Hotel UDAYA What's there to be said about Udaya ? The hotel that has begun as the sole hope for the Priyans stomach - only to be abandoned by a majority in a couple of years for reasons of "incompatiability". The place was run by two brothers, Ramesh & Rajeev and the DGP, all of whom were ever ready with new mindblowing (not to mention stomach churning) schemes that baffled even the local populance. Some of these included innovative ways of salt disposal, manufacture of omlettes only from custom-built "double eggs",and the fizz free sodas. In short, SUPER !! |
