Simon Brett’s popular situation comedy of manners about the lives of three women from different generations — the middle-aged Sarah (Prunella Scales), her mother, played the late Joan Sanderson, and daughter, played by Gerry Cowper — following the death of Sarah’s husband, the Henry of the title. The series began on radio in the mid-eighties and was later adapted as a Thames television series in which Scales and Sanderson also featured. Brett’s next radio sitcom, No Commitments, also has three women as its central characters, this time a family of sisters.
