Arnold Evans’ comedy-drama based on the real-life eighteenth-century dandy and master of ceremonies at Bath, Richard “Beau” Nash. Played by David Bamber, Nash was successfully represented here as the eternal fixer: a typical relatively-bright sitcom character, sometimes able to rescue himself and others from near-certain disaster, sometimes brought down by his own unscrupulous nature and colossal doses of bad luck. Regular support came from Eiry Thomas as Nash’s servant Annie, and Andrew Wincott as Dr Cheyne.
