Radio 4
1987? (six episodes)
The original series of this name was a scripted 1980s vehicle for the humorist Stephen Fry. The scripts (by Fry, Ian Brown and James Hendrie) were, unsurprisingly, highly literate, and the show scaled new heights of self-referentiality. In 1998, after Fry’s success in the TV series A Bit of Fry and Laurie (with Hugh Laurie, who also appeared here) and later suggestions of a retirement from performing after a heavily-documented bout of stage-flight, the Saturday Night Fry name was resurrected for an interesting but unrelated Radio 4 discussion show.
