The Treatment

Radio 5 Live
First broadcast 1994?

The rolling news and sport network’s main contribution to the world of comedy, The Treatment is an hour-long weekly digest which satirises and comments upon events in the week’s news.  The presenter (originally Simon Hoggart, latterly Stuart Maconie) is joined, in true Loose Ends style, around the table by a gaggle of regular and semi-regular contributors, mainly writers and journalists, who chip in with their opinions as various matters are discussed, and also perform comic monologues and the odd sketch or two.  Everything, including the prepared material, is performed live: this creates both a buzz of immediacy and a somewhat slipshod feel to the delivery of the performance pieces.
