Radio 4??
Series One 1980 (six episodes)
Series Two 1981 (six episodes)
Rob Grant and Doug Naylor’s first radio series was a sitcom set in an old people’s home. Among the staff were a cook (Anthea Askey) and a handyman played by Tom Mennard (an actor and comedian who was apparently the inspiration for Billy Balsam in Ken Blakeson’s September Song). There were some surrealistic touches: one resident at the home, played by Nick Maloney (who appeared in all of Grant and Naylor’s subsequent radio projects), had lived on a lighthouse all his life and consequently shouted all the time.
