 | Here is our star of the show.Utena Tenjou is a 14-year-old eigth grader. She is pretty much a tomboy. Her parents died when she was little,so she lives with her aunt, Yurika. A prince saved her from drowning. Now she wants to be come a prince just like him and live a strong, noble life. She transfers to Ohtori Academy to find him, but finds herself in a strange situation (but hey, she's very popular amongst the girls). She meets the Student Council and hears all this talk about duels, rose brides, and the power to revolutionize the world. Now she must find out what all this is about.Utena does duel with Saionji and wins Anthy, the rose bride(yeah..they are enganged-sorta), but she did not understand the true meaning of the duels. She only did it for her friend, Wakaba(in the manga/comic book). | Wakaba Shinohara is a 14-year-old eigth grader who always seems to hang around Utena. She is a royal descendant of the Onion Kingdom and has earned the nickname "Onionhead". She has a crush on Saionji, the vice president of the student council. She is Utena's best friend. Usually, she greets Utena by jumping on her back(it always happens near high places),but Utena always manages to regain her balance. *At first, I thought that Wakaba had a crush on Utena when I read Volume 1, but it turns out that she didn't.* | Anthy (Anshii) Himemiya is also a 14-year-old eigth grader. She is really sweet and is the rose bride and seems to have no mind of her own. Whoever wins a duel and wins her as their rose bride is who she is practically a slave for. She does whatever that person tells her to do. We see her get slapped by Saionji quite a few times. | Saionji is an 11th grader. He is vice president of the student council. I think he crazy. Since he won the rose bride (Anthy) after his victory in a duel, he has been mistreating her (in the manga, he slaps her).Though at some point, he kind of seemed to really care about Anthy.In the manga/comic book, he gets terribly upset when Utena wins their duel and the rose bride. He challenges her again at a dance (it seemed like he really was crazy.) | Touga Kiryuu is an 11th grader. He is the president of the student council, and just like everyone else in the student council,Touga is strange, too. In the manga, he seems to have a slight crush on Utena. He buys her a dress for the dance and everything. He is also known for flirting with many other girls. It makes his seventh grade sister, Nanami very angry(she has a crush on him).Yes..she does...When they were younger, Nanami and Touga were adopted by their not-so-pleasant parents.Touga often looked out for Nanami. |
Juri Arisugawa is the 10th grade treasurer of the Student Council. She's a tall 16- year-old, and she is also captain of the fencing team since the real captain is ill.She does not believe in any sorts of miracles,although she would like to.In fact, once she even dueled Utena because of the way Utena spoke of her "prince". Juri seems to be a perdy tough girl. Pss..you know what? Juri likes Shiori. A while back, Shiori thought that Juri liked some boy,so she "stole" him from her.Juri started to treat her very coldly,but it turns out that Juri didn't really like that boy, but it was Shiori that she really liked.  |
Miki Kaoru is the youngest member of the Student Council. He is in seventh grade, the same grade as Touga's little sister Nanami. Miki(nickname Mickey) is a talented pianist and fencer.He is almost as good as Juri. Miki is also a wittle genius. His classes include college courses, even though he's only in junior high. Miki seems to be the only member of the Student Council who became real friends with Utena. He helped her and Anthy with their homework a lot. At the beginning of the series, he had a crush on Anthy because she reminded him of his twin sister.When he was little, he and his sister often played the piano together in a garden near their house. Miki loved his sister's playing. One time, he pursuaded her to perform in a concert with him, but he became ill, and she had to perform alone.Well just so happens,she really had no talent for the piano, and it was just that Miki was so good that he could carry her. She was so humiliated that she never got over it, and vowed to stop playing the piano. She and Miki never were very close for a long time after that. Anthy reminded Miki of his sister even more after he heard her play the song that he and his sister had written, "The Sunlit Garden." Not much more to say,but Miki is one of my fave Utena characters. | Nanami Kiryuu.This girl is totally insane,but before I yak on about her questionable sanity, I'll you a few other things about her.Nanami is Touga's little sister. She is 13 and is in seventh grade just like Miki. Both her and Touga were adopted by their unpleasant foster parents. Touga often protected Nanami.Here's the crazy junk. Nanami...has a crush on Touga (and yes, he's her brother). She hates when he doesn't pay enough attention to her and when someone else likes him. Once, for his birthday, Nanami gave Touga kitten. Touga payed more attention to the kitten than he did to her.Do you know what she did? She put the kitten in a box and threw it away(I believe into a river or something). The fact that she was little when did it had nothing to do with anything. This girl is just plain crazy. Another thing...when she found out that Touga had a crush on Utena, she challenged Utena to a duel. Of course she lost because she was too angry to concentrate on dueling proficiently. I could probably go on,but I won't. | Kozue Kaoru is Miki's twin sister. As I mentioned before, she and Miki always used to play the piano together in a garden near their house. Miki loved Kozue's playing so much that he convinced her to perform at a concert with him. Unfortunately, Miki became sick and could not play with her, so Kozue had to perform alone. It turns out that she really could not play well. It was just that Miki played so well that he could carry her. Because she was humiliated, she promised to never play the piano again. She said that the only reason she played was because a boy in the neighborhood had like her playing. Now she and Miki are not very close anymore.Not much more to say about her. ^_^' | | | | | | | | |
