The Beatles: Something New

I love the Beatles- I've grown up on them. I was probably the only 8 year old in 1991 who knew of them and listened to them. Anyways, Something New is one of their early releases (1964) and has the catchy sound that everybody loves so much. It also has a German version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand", which when translated, is "Kom Gib Mir Diene Hand". I can hear a lot of influences form 50's artists in the music, especially the ones like "I'll Cry Instead" and "Slow Down", which have rockabilly sounds to them. Ringo makes a vocal appearance on "Matchbox", which has great piano and giutar in it as well. "When I Get Home" is a lyrically sweet song that has strong lead and harmony vocals and very strong instrumental accompianment. "Tell Me Why" combines good rhythms and loose vocals all in one to make for one pretty darn good song. It is freer than other material that the Beatles have done, which is cool. Lastly, "And I Love Her" is a change of pace from the rest of the upbeat songs on the album. It is slow and strong, beautifully sung, and even incorporates some Spanish/Classical guitar in it. Once again... get this one.
