The Police: Zenyatta Mondatta

Okay, so I first got into the Police because I liked like one song I had heard on the radio and Sting is all hot and shit... but that's besides the point. This album as a whole, to me, is a very sensual type album. The Jamaican-Ska influenced beats combined with Sting's voice totally do it all. "Don't Stand So Close to Me" is the prime example of this; it has a very sexy, hypnotizing intro, that gives away to strong vocals and a catchy chorus. "Driven to Tears" fits in well with " Don't Stand", as it has the same "atmosphere", but it's not as strong, and somewhat vacant sounding musically. "Behind My Camel", one of two instrumental pieces on the album, has a nice mysterious ( it's the minor key for those of you who actually know your theory) / sensual sounding guitar line throughout, and all though it is constantly repeated, manages to remain fresh while drawing you in. "Canary in a Coalmine" and "Man in a Suitcase" are wonderfully upbeat songs that are extremely catchy- "Canary" has a great exotic sound to it, while "Man" has more of the straight-up Ska sound. This album for me though, is somewhat hard to listen to straight off, it works better as a backgound type filler, but great none the less. My only complaint is that the drums, which have just about the same pattern in every song, get very monotonous, and after a while, they are all you hear.
