Ramones: Road to Ruin

This album (along with the pic of John Taylor mentioned in the Duran Duran review) was a Christmas present to me a couple years ago from my friend Crystal, and it's great. The Ramones are great. Anyways, let's get down to business. The album opens up with " I Just Wanna Have Something to Do", which has a great guitar and bass meshing thing going on for it. The vocals of Joey match nicely with the qualities and moods of the instruments- something that's very cool. The clean speedy guitars of " I Wanted Everything" adds a great sense of urgency to the song in combination with the lyrics, very interesting; it works great. "Don't Come Close" has a great tune and jangly guitar line in it, which makes it not only catchy, but adds a twist when combined with the somewhat frustrated lyrics. The fact that this is a "gentler" song adds a breather, but it's still a classic in the writing aspect. "Needles and Pins", is a cover of the old song, is also a "gentler" song, and it's done very well by the band. As I was listening to the album, I realized that if this track were put out now as a single, it would probably be very popular. I kind of wish it weren't as sappy and overdone as it is- there's too many 's-uh (ex: needles and pins-uh). "I'm Against It" is what I would call that perfect anti-rant; it manages to sum up the frustrations of the younger generations in the lyrics and the music. "She's the One" is the song that pops into my head whenever the movie by the same name is mentioned... even if I haven't heard the song in ages. It has great, catchy lyrics and guitar in it, and the vocals are wonderful too. It's a prefect little love ditty. The Ramones to me, have managed to withstand the test of time, and wonderfully so. You can pick up any album by them and it will sound as fresh as the day it came out.
