Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Okay, you know what? I love Tom Petty, so this is going to be an extremely biased review. I even had to fight Tom Petty addiction when deciding which album to review. For a debut album, this one is solid. To me, it has stood the test of time, and sounds as fresh as it did 24 years ago. "Rockin' Around (with you)" is a great, strong fast paced opener for the album, and sets the example for the material that follows. I like "Breakdown" because it not only has a good groove and attitude to it, but the vocals tease the audience wonderfully. The verses are soft and sexy, while the chorus just explodes every time. Another song that has the sultry sexy thing going for it is "Luna"; it is introspective as well. Then there's "Anything that's Rock 'n' Roll", a song with a rocking beat, strong instruments and vocals that get wild at times. Even "Hometown Blues" the only stylistically different song because it has more of a country-ish quality to it makes the grade. Great album. Get it.
