Characteristics of Tuscany 1851/1852 and 1857/1859

 

1. The letters of the upper inscription are 1 1/4 mm. lang.

2. The cross above the crown is exactly below the left part of the horizontal bottom line of the T of POSTALE.

3. There are three pearls in the lower part of the crown.

4. There are four periods of different shapes on the left paw of the lion.

5. The frame line below the denomination of value is mostly broken.

6. The letter of the bottom inscription are 1 1/2 mm. high.

7. The point of the lion`s tail touches the upper frame line of the lower inscription band.

8. Each paw of the lion shows four divisions.

9. The lower left end of the shield is on the same level as the first vertical bar of the N of FRANCO.

10. The left arrow in the centerpiece of the shield touches the leaf ornament. This is not true of the

corresponding arrow at right.

11. Only three divisions of the lion`s paw cower a small part of the upper frame of the shield.

12. There is a small space between the lion`s head and the crown.

 

REPRINTS

In 1866 reprints were made only of the 2 Soldi and the 60 Grazie, on the original paper with watermark. The inscription of the value had to be replaced and does not macht completely with the originals. The colors are different they are lighter and more vivid.
