Age: 16
Familial situation: Lives with her two parents, no sibling. Their house is wrecked because of numerous earthquakes.
Occupation: Student
Character's psychology: She is afraid of being hurt; that's one of the reasons why she hesitates so much to accept the artificial hand: she fears both physical and emotional pain. She also refuses the hand because it is not hers but an appendage that might cause infections and problems more than being a true second hand.
Her reaction after seeing Eyro's body is explained by 1) the purple color of the latter and 2) she was extremely nervous and tired when it happened, because of her hand and all. Seeing such unusual (and somehow scary) thing was just too much for her. And admit that learning your only friend has a purple body with strange lines all over it, with a metal necklace to seperate the color of the body and the head, is shocking!
Despite the shock and the fear that follow this event, Eyro is still her best friend and she wants to see him again, even if fearing what will be said and done. When he comes to her house, she's glad yet intimidated. She's seeing him with a new unsure eye but relays on her past experience with him to give him a chance: he's still the same, only he has started to reveal himself to her. She's eager to know and accept him as he is, as long as he remains the same reliable friend he's been before.
It's when Eyro has to leave that Daiya shows her true nature: she's not a fighter. She doesn't beg him to stay, she doesn't try to follow him. She cries, she vows to wait forever for his return. Will she be able to fulfill that promise? After all she's young and it wasn't love that she felt for Eyro. It was affection, a deep, strong and tenderful affection, but he was more like a stick for her to relay on as she stepped into adult life. Maybe he was meant to leave and to not come back... But maybe there was more under the casual mask of intimate friendship. What is certain is that Eyro meant a lot to Daiya and that his departure hurt her deeply, probably meaning more than the loss of her own hand.
At page 14th, Daiya leaves her parents' house to live in a college's residence. She's alone in her room and doesn't seem too confident about her future happiness, despite what she told her mother...
