The following diagrams attempt to explain a few methods of aiming. Because pool balls are round, point of contact between the object ball and cue ball exists on the round surfaces. Shots involving angles (not straight in) require some type of aiming system to compensate for the contact point on these spherical shapes. Beginner's Note 1: "With all Cut Shots, the point of aim is not the point of contact." Only Straight In Shots can be aimed at the point of contact. Beginner's Note 2: Knowledge of how to aim is important. Equally important are an accurate stroke and cue ball control. Good balance; three-point stance; proper bridge, grip, and waggle; level cue, follow through; and subtle hand/eye movements combine into one fluid motion. Players possessing a good stroke are said to have a stroke "as smooth as butter." |
