Hello my name is Mary Gallagher and I am the Parent Liaison at Henry Hudson School 28. I wanted to tell you a little about what I do and what we have in the building that we offer our students. First of all I am here to work with parents. I promote a higher level of responsiveness and customer service to our families. I provide communication from school to home, and home to school by working with school staff and parents. I am here to increase the level of parental involvement which supports the child and the education their child receives. We work on developing and strengthening the relationships between the teachers and the parents. I hold parent meetings on the six types of parenting, NCLB (No Child Left Behind) and other topics that the parents feel are important. I work on getting district information to parents by involving them in district and community meetings. I advocate for parents daily. Parents are kept informed on district meetings, activities as well as community functions (ie. AQE - a quality education). Here at #28 school we have a very active PTA. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 6:45 pm, with a follow up day time meeting, the first Wednesday at 10 am. We also have Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts for the children to participate in. We offer the Extended Day Program for students to get extra help. We also have the 21st Century Learning Program. Both programs offer transportation home from school for the children. As you can see, I am here to train, facilitate, run activities, work with the PTA, answer parent questions and concerns, conduct home visits, coordinate volunteer programs and many other activities.
