TERROR ORGANISATIONS IN TURKEY
Islami Terror Organisations
Leftist Terror Organisations
DHKP/C
With the Military Junta in 1980, the Marxist-Leninist organisations have ceased their actions in the rural regions. After 1990, as KADEK gained power in the Southeast Anatolia, leftist terrorists moved to the Black Sea, as they had a background in this region. Before 1980, DEV-YOL was very active in Fatsa, a town in the Black Sea. The other leftist organisations thought that Fatsa was still a potential redeemed city.
The extended formation of DHKP/C, KADEK and TKP/ML-TIKKO was the forests and the high slopes of Sivas, Tokat, Ordu and Giresun. The high slopes and forests of this region served as a natural hiding place for the terrorists and the geographical characteristic of the region negatively effected the counter-terrorism operations.
After 1990, DHKP/C, KADEK and TIKKO moved their actions to Tunceli but the measurements of the security forces hindered their extension and they left the region a short time.
DHKP/C has signed a protocol with KADEK, in December 1996. According to this protocol DHKP/C would assist KADEK in its extension policy through the Black Sea inwards and KADEK would maintain weapons for DHKP/C. The members of the organisation did not support this protocol and it did not last for long.
The Police have suppressed DHKP/C in Adana and in Osmaniye, in 1997 thus their potential actions in the Mediterranean have been hindered. After the Mediterranean, the organisation moved to the Aegean Region in 1998 and the security forces have caught many militants.
