~ Reading Test ~

Going to school is a human right, just like "the right to life, liberty and security of person" (Art. 3). It is perhaps the most important because it's fundamental to enjoy the other rights. It is the gate for knowledge and innovation. Without Education there will be no progress, no equal opportunities and no sustainable development.

With the right to education, people can understand the other rights they have and get profit from them. Thanks to education, women are empowered, children are safe, and disabled people are treated with respect. In a word, active citizenship becomes a moral obligation. There'll be no dropping out of school, and learning allows people to ensure a decent livelihood in dignity.

Education is not just a right, but it is also a duty. The government has to build schools, but the parents have to send their children there and make sure they are learning something. Additionally, the civil society has to assist poor families not to prevent their kids from school.

II.     WRITING

What are the most important school subjects that the students should study? Write a paragraph giving reasons.

Here is sample writing

The most important subjects the students should study at school are Human Sciences for three major reasons. To begin with, History is a sort of a window through which the students could form a broad idea about the past and where they came from to know where they are heading. Secondly, philosophy is particularly an essential subject to study in the sense that it teaches the students how to think logically and reasonably. It enables them to ask questions wisely and argue with evidence. Finally, and most importantly, are the foreign languages which are central in identifying with the world around them. As the world has become a small village thanks to technology, it is imperative for the students to learn several languages to interact, communicate and share experience with people from other cultures for mutual understanding and respect. They are central for them to become active global citizens. Moreover, foreign languages, and especially English, are needed for the students’ future careers. All in all, they are these diverse reasons which make Humanities the most vital for students to take at school nowadays.

An engineer sent this

Hi teacher,

i won't miss this opportunity to participate in this debate about the most important school subjects the students should study nowadays. The three most imposing ones are undoubtedly Mathematics, computer programming and English.

As for the first, all the new industries are based essentially on maths, especially aeronautics, renewable energies, and electro-mechanics. It is only with maths that the students can understand and innovate in Physics and Dynamics. The second one is computer programming. This is an essential school subject today since most industries such as computer science, robotics and other areas of engineering cannot do without it. Therefore, the C++ language and other protocols are needed for analysing and processing information besides building sophisticated system processes. The third major subject, of course, is English. Obviously all the branches of science and technology are published and widely communicated in the English language. If the students master English, they will have access to the newest novelties in the field.

In brief, there are more other school subjects that the students have to study, but I think these are the most urgent today.

All the best
Yours, Ravi Solarist
