Latest Elections Results (1993)
In a closely fought elections, the PCs lost seat count but still emerged with the right to form a majority government. The Liberals gained the most moving from 83 seats to 129 but will again be confined to the opposition. Finally, the NDP ran a sorry campaign and ended with 17 seats from a previous count of 43 seats
The final results are given below:
National:
PCs - 149
Libs - 129
NDP - 17
Outlook:
Liberal Party of Canada:
With the Libs being confined to another term in opposition they will have to work harder than ever before to build on their success. The elections should be viewed as positive compared to another losing campaign. They were the only party to gain seats this elections and this may be a sign of future things to come.
NDP:
Lack of actively campaigning MPs, the same results - last. But this time it was worse. The only reason they even managed 17 seats was because of the controversial call for Quebec independence and ultra-socialist leanings that the party seems to be heading towards
PCs:
Another term in government. But they very nearly lost out this time. Despite winning all provinces except Ontario, the PCs were behind the Libs in seat count until teh final Quebec results came in, which gave the PCs a 20 seat lead over the Liberals and the 3 seat majority government. Their challenge:"Keep all seats intact, a slight change in balance and everything could go horribly wrong".
