Blue Chip
Scouting 6'1" 210lbs.  Jeffrey Clement is a left-handed offensive threat behind the plate.  The 21-year-old Clement, a junior from Marshalltown, Iowa, was USC's team leader this season with a .347 average, 13 home runs, 50 RBI's, 17 doubles, 44 walks and a .474 on-base percentage.  His 44 career homers rank third on USC's career list, trailing only Mark McGwire (54) and Geoff Jenkins (45).  Defensively Clement is a below average catcher.  He makes up for that by playing with a lot of intentsity.  He's just a year or two away from playing in the bigs.

Starter
Scouting 6'0" 200lbs.  Kiel Thibault is a powerfully built, natural baseball player.  He brings a lot of intangibles to the park and already has some major league quality skills.  The Gonzaga captain has great leg strength and cat-like reflexes behind the plate.  And, although not the strongest of arms, a tremdously accurate one throwing down to second.  Offensively, Thibault has excellent bat speed through the strike zone, but still needs to work on overall upper body motion.  Could be ready in two or three seasons.

Scouting 6'0" 200lbs.  The second catching Jeffrey is a little rawer than the first, and is more of a longer term project.  He has a solid, naturally built frame that lends itself to a smooth all-around game.  Offensively, Howell is a gap to gap line drive hitter.  He is very adept at going the opposite way.  Behind the plate is Jeffrey's real strength.  He has a quick on-line delivery to second base.  Howell also has very soft hands that are adept at snagging even the most errant of throws.

Developmental
Scouting 6' 0" 200lbs.  Christopher Haulpt is a take charge player on the field.  With a natural temperment for a catcher, Haupt handles himself well behind the plate.  Although only blessed with average defensive skills, his feistiness on the field will more than make up for that.  At bat, Chris is a line drive hitter who makes solid contact.  Not one to strike out a lot, he is also not one to put one out of the park.

Scouting 6' 2" 245lbs.  Peppers was a five year starter and two-time captain at the University of Georgia.  Red shirted as a freshman due to a torn pectoral muscle, Dave hit the weight room hard and heavy.  Known for his McGwire like strength, they joke at U of G that when Peppers hits the ball, God ducks.  Although a below average fielder, he has all-star written all over him at the plate.  Peppers is some one who can play at the majors level June 15th, and in the long run, challenge for the career home run record.

Scouting 6'2" 220lbs.  Matthew Edwards is one of the more mature candidates in the draft.  A graduate of Notre Dame with degrees in both Business Administration and Finance, he has decided to give baseball a try first.  Offensively, he uses a very level swing and doesn't strike out a lot. Defensively, he's got excellent range and can really dig a ball out of the dirt.  Scouts compare him to a Doug Mientkiewicz.

Scouting 6' 1" 220lbs. Erik Lis is a defensive first baseman, with excellent range.  With a strong, athletic frame and soft hands he picks up balls in dirt well. A surprisingly good base runner Erik will also be able to steal the occasional base. At the plate Lis still needs a lot more maturity, although some scouts think that the potential is definitely there, just hidden a bit.  Expect Erik to spend several years working his way through the minor league system before he gets his shot at the big show.

Scouting 6'1" 185lbs.  The oldest player in this years draft, John Heckman is all offense and very little defense.  At the plate John shows good pop off of his bat, but still needs to develoip plate discipline.  On an every day basis, scouts project 90-100 K's per season to go along with his 20-30 home runs.  In the field, no range and a below average glove have seen John try a variety of different positions, none with great success.

Scouting 5'10" 185lbs.  Cooper Osteen was a four-year starter for the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.  Although he batted lead-off in college, Cooper projects into a #2 or a #9 hitter with solid speed and good bat control.  The only concern about him batting in the number two hole is scouts feel he pulls the ball too much.  In the field, Osteen has a solid glove and above average range.  He can make the plays to his right or to his left.  There is still some arm strength question after having surgery to his right shoulder the end of his junior year.

Scouting 5'9" 195lbs.  Our first (and likely last) person ever from the University of Oshkosh, Jeremy Jirschele is a likeable kid.  He has a David Eckstein type enthusiasm and joy for the game.  Offensively, he is at a disadvantage with his small frame and lean build.  Combine that with a very flat bat and you get a line drive hitter all the way.  In the field, Jeremy has soft hands and will make the routine play, but not much else.

Scouting 6'2" 210lbs. Scouting 5'11" 185lbs.  Alexander Avila is a long shot, but has some potential.  If a team could add some strength and plate discipline to Avila's solid swing with a slight uppercut, some good power numbers might be in order.  In the field, Alexander is a ferocious defender, always willing to dive and sacrifice his body for a play on the ball.  With a solid arm he can really gun the ball the 1st.   Overall, scouts aren't sure whether or not Avila will be a big time player or a big time bust.

At 5-11, Ron had a stellar season with a 8-1 record and a .98 era. Over his three-year career, Ron has recorded 120 strikeouts and only 28 base on balls.
