CURRICULUM

 

Duration: The Post-Graduate course in Medical Science and Technology is of three years duration. It consists of 4 semesters of course work spread over the first two years. The third year is totally devoted to project work, involving dissertation. The schedule will be identical with the class schedule of other courses at the Institute. It will consist of 5 Theory subjects and two to three laboratories/sessionals in each semester. Like any other UG/PG programme of the Institute, this programme has one mid-semester and one end-semester examination. The grading system is also the same as that of other programmes in the Institute. The rules and regulations are the same as those for all postgraduate programmes of the institute.

The students will undergo summer training for hands-on training in Imaging techniques, Nuclear medicine, Radiation therapy and its effects. This training will be arranged in government/private Hospitals in Kolkata. Apart from this, the students will also undergo training during winter vacations in various National research laboratories and industries engaged in research and manufacture in related areas.

Assistantship: An assistantship of Rs.10.000/ p.m. shall be given to all the eligible students admitted for this programme. The students shall be asked to serve in B.C. Roy Technology Hospital for 6-8 hours per week to become eligible for the assistantship.

B.C. Roy Technology Hospital: This is a 35 bedded hospital with well-equipped pathology laboratory and X-ray department. A physician and cardiologist heads this hospital. It has two gynaecologists and Obstetricians. There are six permanent doctors, three temporary doctors and six visiting specialists covering areas of paediatrics, dental, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT and orthopaedics. It has round the clock emergency service, morning and evening OPD service. It is proposed to start an ICU in near future and to improve different specializations.
