For the 2004 season, teams will be able to protect 8
players of their choosing.
When preparing for the 2004 draft, teams must pre-rank their protected players so that they are drafted first.
Teams are not permitted to draft any free agent players until all of their protected players have been selected.
No team is permitted to add a protected player to their list that does not belong to their team.
It is the responsibility of all team owners to ensure that their pre-rankings to not contain other team’s protected players.
If a team drafts a player protected by another team, that
player must be returned to the team that protected him, and the team at fault is
not entitled to any compensation.
Any team who does not abide by these rules regarding protected players will be subjected to a penalty of the commissioners choosing.
