Don Wheeler Memorial

Teams Played and Outcome

Don Wheeler Memorial: Wolverines were 5 and 0.

Our first game we beat Clark Electric 21 to 17. We jumped out to an early big lead but we couldn't put them away. We were on the verge of run ruling them but they kept fighting.

Game 2: We runruled HDI 20 to 10. We are now 3 and 0 against them this year. All three wins have been by run ruling. We jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Game 3: We thought we would be meeting Southern Belle in this game but the Jackson Co. Merchants beat them for the 2nd straight time. Jackson Co. gave us all we wanted. This might have been the game of the tourney. We jumped out with 7 runs in the top of the first. They battled back with 6. In the 2nd we scored five more to make it 12 to 6. That didn't last long because in the bottom of the inning the JCM score 13 to push the lead to 19-12. We came in and scored one. In the bottom they went ahead 22-13. In the 6th we had a big inning and took the lead 25-22. In the bottom they tied it up. In the 7th we busted a seven run inning and held them to just 2. The final was 32-27. We could like to give this team a lot of credit. They are capable of beating anyone. They killed the ball all weekend long.

Game 4: Championship of the Winner's Bracket against Marion Music. This was a game where we battled back from an early deficit. We were down 9 to 4 but kept it close in the late innings we pushed ahead by 4. We held them scoreless in the seventh to win 21-17. We didn't use our HR wisely as we hit back to back solos inteh 3rd inning.

Game 5: Championship vs Marion Music. They scored 2 runs in the first and we came in and got 4 or 5. We jumped out to an early lead of 15-7. Then we went cold. We hit a couple HR for outs and they slowly got closer and closer. A couple errors opened the door for them to keep it close. In the top of the 7th they scored 4 or 5 to edge ahead 18 to 17. In the bottom of the inning we were down to our last out. We had a runner on 1st and 3rd and we were down by 1. Ralph Halcomb got a single up the middle to tie the game. They then walked the bases loaded. Scott Crook came to put and hit a line drive up the middle ending the game. We won 19 to 18. We are now 3 and 0 against Marion Music this year.
