In an effort to change philosophy into a study of the world’s truths, he formed it into a discipline which tries to advance our well-being.
Dewey focused on the truths of human nature, then applied those truths to politics and social issues. He states that a system is the best if it provides the conditions for widespread agreement about the ways of life; thus, he trusted in democracy out of all systems. He realizes that it is not perfect, but it is the closest to expressing world truths.
He then expanded on education, noting that people need to be taught democracy in the form of developing social skills in children. Specifically, school children are to be taught to jugde rather than to know so that they can eventually effectively understand and deal with the problems of human living.
