Parts of Cell

Plasma Membrane
The semi-permiable membrane housing the cell; consisting of a lipid bylayer, and integral and peripheral proteins.
cell membrane
Cytoplasm
The cellular components between the plasma membrane and the nucleus. These components are the cytosol (fluid portion) and the organelles (fuctional little dudes in the cell)
cytoplasm
Nucleus
A large organelle that houses chromatin, and the nucleolus. All covered by a nuclear envelope wiht nuclear pores.

Lipid Bylayer
Two layers of the amphipathic phospholipids that surround and contain the cytoplasm.
Proteins
Integrated proteins that aid in the structure and transportation of particles into and out of the cell.
Diffusion
The passive process of material in and out of the cell from an area of high concentration to an area of an low concentration.
Osmosis
The passive process of a solvent (Water) moving through a semi-permiable membrane from an area where the concentration of the solvent is higher to the area where the concentration of the solvent is less.
Facilited Diffusion
Movement of particles through an integral protein that is structured to move a particular substance down a concentration gradient.
Active Transport
Movement of particles AGAINST a concentration gradient with protein "pumps".
Transport Vessicles
Vessicles with a membrane seperating the internal environment or the vessicle from the outside environment used for transporting substances between organalles and/or the plasma membrane and/or the extracellular fluid.
