Funny Formats
Here are some of the fun and interesting formats my buddies and I came up with in order to add a little spice to the game of Magic the Gathering. I hope you enjoy! If you have any ideas for a funny format please post a note in my forum or email me a message. make sure the title of the email is "Funny Format". Thanks! See ya at MTGO!
CHAOS FORMAT:
Just like the name implies this is a game of total chaos. This format is great for playing fast, powerhouse games and can be done with any number of players. Chaos format is designed to allow you to play your cards fast and hit your opponents with everything AND the kitchen sink.
RULES:
In order to play chaos you will need a deck with a minimum of 60 cards. Each player starts the game with 20 life points plus an additional 10 lifepoints per opponent. (E.g. In a 3 man FFA each player would start with 40 points(20+10+10). You may increase or decrease the number of additional life points as you choose. Each player starts the game with a hand of at least 7 cards but this format can be played with a starting hand of as many as 10 cards. You may play all the mana in your hand each turn. (NOTE: effects from shock/bounce lands still apply).Replenish your hand to the maximum number of cards at the end of your turn.
DIPLOMACY:
This format can be used in concert with any other format and is designed to give everyone a fighting chance to get their deck moving and build up an army. But as with all peace talks, eventually they break down and thats when the real fun begins.
RULES:
In order to play diplomacy you will need a deck with a minimum of 60 cards. Each player starts the game with a minimum of 20 life points although you may increase this number as you wish.At the beginning of the game the starting player rolls a 6-sided die. The starting player then puts that many diplomacy counters on the field. No one may attack or play any aggressive spell (anything that affects your opponent(s) or his/her cards in play) while a diplomacy counter remains on the field. At the beginning of each turn remove one diplomacy counter until none are left. When all diplomacy counters are gone, the war ensues.
WAR OF GENERALS (a.k.a. War of the Legends):
This format is theme-based around the legendary cards that Magic the Gathering offers. Each player uses his "generals" (legendary creatures) to guide his/her armies and wage war upon their opponent.
RULES:
In order to play War of Generals you will need a deck with a minimum of 60 cards.Your deck must contain 6 to 8 legendary creatures and at least 12 creatures that share at least one creature type with at least one of your legendary creatures.Only legendary artifacts are allowed, all other artifacts are BANNED in this format. You may use any Sorceries, Instants, or Enchantments that are not listed below in the BANNED list. Each player starts the game with a 99 lifepoints. You may NOT attack unless you have at least one "General" (legendary creature) in play under your control. You may block as normal even if you do not have a "General" in play. You lose the game if all of your legendary creatures die or are removed from the game, or if you lose all your life points.BANNED CARDS: Leyline of Singularity, Death Wish, Living Wish, Golden Wish, Burning Wish, Cunning Wish, Neverending Torment, All non-legendary artifacts.
Momir Vigean:
This is one of the newest formats to hit online play and you just gotta love it! To make a Momir Vigean deck you will need the Momir Vigean Avatar card and a deck consisting of 60 basic land cards (12 of each basic land). The play-style of this format is simple. Play your mana and use it to activate the ability of your Momir Vigean Avatar to put creatures into play. The greatest thing about this format is the fact that Momir puts random creatures into play so you never know what is gonna hit the field next. This format can be used in any game from 1v1 to FFA and multiplayer matches. I suggest everyone give it a try.
