Tonight, as I was doing some time on ICQ, I recieved a message from a East Indian guy I have chatted with a few times. Early on in the conversation, the guy brings up the topic that Sting (of The Police fame), is sitting right next to him. Luckily, Sting was willing to chat. So, I thought that my ICQ session with Sting, or some East Indian kid posing as Sting, was funny. Funny enough to post on my site! Here is the full UNEDITED version of my chat session with Sting, complete with my afterthoughts in red text:
Just prior to Sting coming up in conversation, we had been discussing the dates in out respective countries.
East Indian Dude: even i am on friday
hey u listen to sting?????
At this point, I can remember typing, "No...why do you ask?" but then deleting it and typing this:
Me: Not much, more the Police...why do you ask?
The next message made me laugh very hard. I didn't know what to do!
East Indian Dude: b`cause he`s sitting next to me
he`s my dad`s coll friend
I was actually worried about Sting being mad at me for not saying I listen to his music. A word of advice: Whenever somebody asks you if you like somebody, always say yes because the person they are asking about is probably standing right behind them.
Me: Really? Tell Sting I love the Police. That must be great talking to him.
I tried to save face by saying I "love" the Police. I think it worked.
East Indian Dude: u can talk to him go ahead ask any thing to him
Of course the only thing I can think of to say to Sting is:
Me: Well, since I can't be sure if this is really Sting :)...how are you today Sting?
Pretty creative, eh?
Sting: very much fine afro
prabhav is telling me that ulike police
uh
Apparently Sting missed alot of school as a kid. I had no idea his typing and grammar skills were so poor. I thought of telling Sting this, but I was already treading on this ice by not listening to his music.
Me: I sure do...I think that the Police are a hug inspiration on many of the bank I like today.
Alot of the punk music I listen to takes inspiration from the Police.
Another attempt by me to save some face. Once again, I think Sting took the bait. Especially considering I told Sting The Police had a "hug" inspiration on many "bank". I guess I was trying to match Sting's communication sytle by putting some typos in there.
Sting: thank you very much
The humble Sting expressed his heartfelt gratitude with those simple words. What a guy!
Me: Thanks to you also Sting...have you any new music coming available soon?
By this time, I was just kissing Sting's ass. Why would I have any reason to thank Sting? I had never even met Sting until now. Apparently, I was star struck and completely lost my mind.
Sting: i just released my new album (brand new day)
and iam in india fr working on a new one
Again Sting comes through with some excellent grammar and punctuation.
Me: Oh, you seem to record in alot of exotic places...I remember you have also recorded in the East Indies too...am I right?
I was on some serious crack during this one. I should have said West Indies. Afterall, Sting was in the East Indies when we were chatting. Sting still did his best to answer my question with this gem:
Sting: yup i like to mix up my mix
Now if that isn't poetry, I don't know what is.
And there you have it! My chat session with Sting will forever hold a place in my heart.
