This is my essay on Punk Rock and people and government.
People and Punk
Growing up in a town completely isolated from cultural difference and having no actual punk scene(but the hick scene here is excellent, the best in the world) has definatly generated an extremely open-minded opinion of both subjects. Now the so called punk scene here was never really a punk scene at all. Every age level in this vomit pool has it's small percentage of rebellious youth(as with any age level). A small percentage of that percentage have been dubbed Punks. I being one of them. Now, the strange part about this town is the so-called punks are divided. One group veiws the other as not being punk enough and the other veiws the accusers as assholes. I seem to be the only one to be able to cross between the fine line of the two sides without getting the piss beat out of me. It's sad really. To me, a lot of what punk is has to do with being united. U to the N to the I-T-Y. But not just being united to other punks, but with everyone. In order to be united you must have understanding, respect and acceptance. Not just with your own "kind" but to humans in general.
Sooo, what makes being a punk different from just being open-minded? It's about seeing whats wrong with the world and trying to change it for the better, accepting and understanding the differences and diversities, BUT at the same time seeing though the differences and diversities that are not intended to help or better society in any means and taking a stand against them. Rebellion with a cause. Not Anarchy. Fuck that. Yeah, you heard me.
Do I consider myself Punk? Na, not really. Others do, but I don't. Although, I'm not sure any Punk really considers themselves punk because they never feel that they've made a big enough difference in the world to use the name.
People & Government
People are a strange group of mammals, the only ones that have the ability to use logic and nagotiation. Although, many don't seem to take advantage of these God-Given priviliges. Damn shame really. They seem to blame their own stupidity and ignorance, which by the way leads to lack of self-control, on others inorder to put a damper on the blow to their own self-esteem. Notice the insane amount of weapons and acts of violence on the globe. Anger is the #1 killer of Self-Control. Funny how that works. I hope this is making sense to you.
Why all the anger you ask(ha)? First of all, War. It makes no sense to me. And neither does our Government. Any Government. Not mine, not yours, not Pedro's, not Yohann's, not anyone's. NO COMPRENDE'! The Gov. says they represent "The best intersest of the people." Dogshit. My best interest is NOT dressing in camo and trugging through the jungle shooting at someone cuz they're shooting at me when neither of us really know why we're shooting each other. We're both just following the orders of a bunch of old fat men in overpriced suits who think that somehow by us blowing off as many heads as we can THEY are going to get their way in the world without even having to get out of their leather office chairs long enough for their coffee to get cold. WHY? I don't know. Thats what makes no sense. War and government go together like cops and donuts. Revolts and riots make sense, but not all out war. They have causes behind the chaos. They are quick and to the point. People fighting for what they believe in, not what the gov. tells them to fight for whether they believe it or not. When fighting for a cause their should be no middle man, no indirect sources of anger. Are the leaders of our countries so ignorant and stubborn that they can't discuss and sort out issues without screaming "war!"? We should spend more of our tax paying dollars on Government therapy and less on our military forces. Logic. I hate to say it, but can't we all jus'get along? It's small small world and our problem solving tactics aren't doing us any good.
Ah, now now, I know what yer thinking. You hate the gov. BUUUUT you don't believe in Anarchy. What the f...? I don't agree with a lot of things the government has done and is doing now. Corrupt is the word I am looking for. The U.S. gov. is getting very greedy and have failed to learn from the many mistakes they have made in the past. BUT, every nation needs a form of leadership. I take that back, a form of honest and logical leadership. This is making me really angry just thinking about it because there isnt a hell of a lot that can be done. Human nature is human nature. I'm just rambling now.
I forget where all this was going. Ah, yes. People and especially the government seem to be turning their backs on the things that really matter. It's not about who has the most weapons or the most technology, it's about the homeless man on the corner, the grade school kid shooting his teacher, the junkie passed out on your front lawn, the unibomber, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Columbine shootout, disgruntaled postal workers, rapests, murderers, beating the piss out of kids, wives, dogs, chopping down every tree in sight, burning crosses, flaming churches, men in white hoods, skin heads, dead babies, corrupt police officers,over paid athletes, underpayed teachers. Fuck Nasa. How is flying to the Uranis gonna help the homeless and keep my family from getting shot by a 7 year old? Screw nuclear missles and while your at it screw oversea intervention too. What good does any of that do when the battle zone is in your front yard? Sure, the world is in this together, but first things first. Take care of the bullshyt, the backwardsness, the corruption and the chaos at home and that will take care of the rest. Thats my logic anyway.
"It's a crazy fucked up world and we're all just barely floating along, waiting for someone who can walk on water". Heroin Bob said it best. Unfortuantly for us, it's the truth, and it's sad. And it's our own fault. I'm not going to sit here and place the blame on everyone but myself. It's just as much fault as it is yours, the gov., the post mans, and every single human being in this world. The difference between me and 97.94632 % of the world is that I've accepted the blame. I'm not standing with my back turned and my eyes closed. I'm not pointing my finger at one person or a group of people, I'm pointing at the entire world. There are two choices here. Take responsibility or be ignorant. Just remember, Ignorance will be the termination of all life.
Think of me what you will. These are my thoughts. You may agree. You may disagree. But either way, you can't deny the truth. Read the papers. Watch the news. Talk to people. Question your Government. Open your mind, your eyes, and for the sake of whatever you believe in, don't turn your back on the things that are happening around you.
