RIP OFFS TEXT DISCOGRAPHY
SINGLES AND EPS
Now I Know (It's You) b/w Can I Come Over (Rip Off, Rip Off #003, 1994)
Tracks:
- Now I Know (It's You)
- Can I Come Over
Notes: Thier first, out on Greg's own Rip Off Records. In case you're wondering, he named the band after the label, not vice versa. One sided as always, on cheap black vinyl that's a translucent brown if you hold it up to the light. Great Stuff.
Make Up Your Mind b/w Wild Jane 7" (Rip Off, Rip Off Record #004, 1994
Tracks:
- Make Up You Mind
- Wild Jane
Notes: One sided as per usual, with a couple of smokin' tracks by our boys from San Bruno. Two sided sleeve this time around and sexy chick with an open blouse to boot. Just went outta print last year, though availible on the Rip Off Records comp CD (Yeecch!). And as Jon Von Sez: "When at Dave's, be sure to try their famous shrimp salad." Wise words form a wise man.
Teengenerate Split 7" (Wallabies Records, WAL-005, 1994)
Tracks:
Rip Offs
- Leave You Cold
- Do The Uganda (Stingray)(???)
Teengenerate
- Mess Me Up
- Savage (Fun Things)
Notes: On Wallabies Records out of good ol' Japan, this rare one pairs up the best garage punk bands of both hemispheres. Teengenerate tears through a couple and the Rip Offs do a rare cover of "Do the Uganda" by some dude named Stringray. Prolly a limited pressing, and prolly never to be repressed, so get it while it hot (it is, chimps).
The Savage Middle Aged Rip Offs Fan Club E.P. (Pure Filth, PFR-595901, 1993)>
Tracks:
- Leave You Cold
- I Can't Stop
- Hooked On Phonics
- Zodiac
Notes: As Jon Von sez about this piece o' wax: "'ello kiddies! This record was our first ever recordings and, in my opinion, they leave skidmarks on our other SHIT!!" Kinda says it all, don't it? Apparently Shane released this on his own Pure Filth label without first consulting Greg and they got into a fight over it. Tee Hee, it's like a fuckin soap opera around here. Anyhow, there are two versions, red and black vinyl, with the front cover pic being different, though the backs are the same. The red vinyl was probably pressed for the first 100 copies, which seems to be the custom in cases of red and black vinyl. Hooked on Phonics is probably my favorite Rip Offs song, and is exclusive to this record. The rest of the songs are rough sendups of songs availible on other slabs. Oh, and be sure to sign-up fer the Official Greg Lowery Fan Club. All you gotta be is sixteen, female.
Go Away b/w Sleeparound (Rip Off, Rip Off Record #010, 1995)
Tracks:
- Go Away
- Sleeparound
And if yer fuckin' lucky:
- Fast Livin
Notes: The third and last of the Rip Off Singles, it's another double sided sleeve with a sexy girl's boobies almost showing. This record has a insanely rare 2-sided version which has a third song, "Fast Livin'" on the flip. I have no idea for sure but I would guess about 50 of these bad boys were pressed, no more than 100. I've seen one for sale once, when I bought it for a song on eBay, so keep an eye out kiddies. In the dead wax on side 1 it says "You are a winner" meaning you got your order in and got one of the first 50-100 copies sent out. In the dead wax of the flip it reads "Fast Livin by Shane White". The song is pretty damn good, too. I'd say this was about the most excited that I got about finding a record. Get yer own!!! You can't have mine!!!
Got A Record LP (Rip Off, Rip Off Record #006, 1994)
Tracks:
- Heat Seeker
- Rip Your Heart Out
- Fed Up
- Cops
- My Baby Yeah
- Can't Take It
- Baby Let Go
- Zodiac (Supercharger)
- Can't Stop
- Dolemite
- Ugly
- Shadow (P. Stride)
- What's In It For Me
- She Said Yeah
Notes: The only Rip Offs album they put out, and now out of print. Great stuff, including a Supercharger cover and a song originally played by the Fingers that isn't attributed, probably because Shane or Jason wrote the songs themselves. Incidentally, these two songs (Zodiac and What's In It For Me) were the two songs slated to be on the never released/recorded Pre-BS Supercharger-Fingers Split, now salvaged by the band that evolved from these two. Also there is a red vinyl version of this that I Haven't been able to get a hold of, probably only 100 copies pressed. If you're looking at this page you need this album to be a complete person.
Texas Speed Trials LP (No Lie, NL-012, 1995)
Tracks:
The Satans
- Primordial Drive
- Get Offa My Back
- Foot In The Door
The Inhalants
- Mad Scramble
- Middle Ages
- Atomic (sic) Pilot
Lord High Fixers
- Hoodoo Man's Pins
The Cryin' Out Louds
- Mental Case
- Here And Gone
- Cut Off
The Motards
- Fast Song
- I Can't Wait
- Do You Wanna Do It?
The Rip Offs
- Fed Up
- Ugly
- She Said Yeah
Notes: Wow, quite possibly the best assembly of 90s garage punk bands, period, and they're all live! The Lord High Fixer's track is the weakest on this comp if that tells you anything. All recorded live at Emo's, in Sunny Austin, Texas. You know how these Austinites are nutty for screenprinting, and this LP is no different. There are at least 3 different colored covers that I've seen, so open up those wallets and buy 'em. RAWK! The only comp (aside from the comp CD on Rip Off if you're too lazy to track down the originals of the first 8 or so Rip Off Records singles). All exclusive recordings.
Compiled with love and kisses by Lumpy Sowers. If, for some unGodly reason, want to use any of this swill on your page, lemme know and I'll give you the OK. Thanks!
Send me some mail and tell me what you think, or anything that you have to add. Thanks!
