- bearing my shield or borne upon my shield
Remove the head this time, or tear up the roots.
Whatever kills it quicker, words or poison.
Access to both is so easy, easier than you thought.
Split apart at the seams by eager hands at the slightest provocation.
Is your own hold that tenuous?
"Friendly fire" and I was all deserved.
"You make it seem like we're on different sides like you wanted it that way."
So what is it this month?
It was given up to long ago.
No one expects change at this point.
And that's the saddest part.
- under
Everything was lies and cold.
Nothing but hidden eyes.
And were you bought or sold, or left or ignored?
Or were you torn down for every time you felt and tasted only anger,
That doesn't burn as easily as twilight or bridges.
Return to this again when you can't reconcile yourself
With the blood on your hands or the words you were told.
Let this fall and die, let this crumble and wash away.
We will all be better for it but never absolved, remember that.
You write words that make it seem like you forgot.
- never to be
It returns again.
When you thought you left, or thought you were done.
I swore the last time was the last time and I was proven wrong again.
It's like everything returns to you all the time, but it's more than that.
I left it, I left it and walked away, with so much left to say.
I waited and turned over another year, and it found me again.
Track seven keeps playing in my head and the words were never truer than now.
So learn to live with the cycle and the choices you don't make, and the words you never said.
And it returns again.
- for the beasts
The rivers swelled, and swept you away,
And the night gave way to disregard and discussions in the form of questions.
While you shook your head and I tried to pretend.
So it all fell away, fell towards an ending as I used to say.
But it never meant as much then, and I've been colder since.
Colder like the river sweeping everything of worth away, underneath.
To belong to something, to end in nothing, below.
I want to be given back,
So that I'm certain of one thing at least so that in the nothing I can be at peace.
Whatever may come from heaven let it rain down and prove me wrong.
