Mystery surrounds the death of a 26-year-old man of New Hope, East Bank Demerara whose body was found with several wounds on the public road yesterday morning.

Deodat Jaikarran died sometime between 10 pm on Saturday and 9 am yesterday, police said.

According to information, on Saturday night Jaikarran and relatives joined a bus at New Hope en route to Grove, EBD. He however stopped short, according to reports, while his relatives continued on.

He did not return to his New Hope home that night and yesterday morning a woman discovered his body lying on the parapet of the New Hope Public Road. The discovery was reported to the police who arranged for the body to be taken to the mortuary.

Police said no one has been arrested and there was no information as to how the man met his death.

Stabroek News was told that Jaikarran was stabbed several times.

Stabroek News visited his home last evening but it was tightly closed. The body is awaiting a post-mortem.
