"Once we get in we can dance with whoever we want," Selphie said, "'cause I just know Chappu and Luzzu are wanting to dance with each other and same for Quistis and Lulu."
Everyone nodded as they walked toward the school gym room.
Wakka kept glancing at Tidus, who was talking back and forth with his date Rikku. He couldn't help but feel really jealous even though he knew they were only going to the dance as friends.
'Why can't we go...? Stupid question, this is a dance where girls ask guys...' Wakka sighed. Selphie looked at her date, worry showing on her face. She raised an eyebrow when she saw Wakka looking at Tidus.
'Ohhh,' Selphie grinned. 'I know a secret.' she chanted over in her head. 'Hmm, how can we get Wakka to dance with Tidus?' she mused.
Selphie danced Wakka over where Tidus and Rikku were dancing. She grinned, tapping Rikku on the back.
"I have a idea!" Selphie exclaimed, "how bout we switch partners?"
Wakka shrugged. 'Sure, why not...'
"Great!" Selphie smiled, pulling Rikku away from Tidus. "Rikku you better not step on my toes."
"Hey... I thought..." Wakka blushed, looking over at Tidus, who looked as just as shocked as Wakka felt. Wakka had of course thought Selphie meant for Rikku to dance with him and she'd dance with Tidus. He never imagined this.
"Heh...sorry, Tidus, it looks like you got the short end of the stick." Wakka rubbed a hand through his red hair, trying to look nonchalant.
Tidus looked at Wakka, somewhat flushed, "umm..." he bit his lip, "are we just going to stand here? We're in the way."
"Oh, right." Wakka flushed, "well, do you mind dancing with me? It doesn't weird you out of anything, does it?"
Tidus smiled, "Nah, I don't really mind and why would it weird me out? You're my friend."
Tidus was so clueless, "'cause I'm gay."
"Well as long as you don't try to feel me up, I'll be okay."
"I wouldn't do that!" Wakka exclaimed.
"You wouldn't?" Tidus said, not understanding why he felt disappointed.
"Of course not; you're my friend, and I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable around me." Wakka said.
Tidus smiled, "Thanks." he said, though the thought of Wakka's hands on his body didn't really sound so bad.
'Oh, what am I thinking?! I'm not attracted to guys, am I?' Tidus looked at Wakka, biting his lip again.
"If we're going to dance, we better hurry up. We really are getting strange looks."
"Huh!? Oh, yeah." Tidus flushed, stepping up to Wakka. He blinked a couple of times, not sure of his role in this dance.
Wakka grinned, "I'll lead."
"Okay." Tidus put his hands around Wakka's neck, feeling his skin tingle when Wakka put his hands on his waist.
Just as they started to dance, the song ended, making Wakka almost groan.
'Dang it! Just when we were about to dance...'
"Maybe... we can dance the next song... umm, Rikku and Selphie seem to be enjoying themselves and all..." Tidus blushed, looking down.
'Did he just ask me to dance the next song?!' Wakka softly smiled, glancing over at Selphie and Rikku. Both girls looked at him, giving him thumbs up. Wakka's eyes went wide. 'That's why Selphie did that! She found out somehow!'
"Okay," Wakka said, "the next songs ours."
I know we've been friends forever, but now I think I'm feeling something totally new...
Wakka looked up, his face turning maroon when he heard that the song that was theirs was about love and new feelings...
Tidus didn't seem to notice, as he stepped up to Wakka, putting his arms around his neck. Wakka tried not to let it show how eager he was to dance with Tidus as he put his hands on his waist.
and after all this time I've opened my eyes, and now I see you were always with me...
"Thanks for the ride," Selphie said, as she got out of Chappu's truck. Rikku and Selphie followed.
Chappu smiled, "no problem." he said, waving by to the girls.
The dance had come and gone, and everyone was thankful it was over. Not that the group really minded dancing with each other. They were all friends, after all. It was just that after they guys had danced together one of the teachers put a stop to it, but didn't seem to think they needed to stop the girls from dancing with each other.
"I really hate this school!" Luzzu complained, angry about unfairness of it all. "Why did they ask us to stop dancing but they didn't ask Rikku and Selphie to stop? Not to mention the other girls who were dancing."
"Because the chaperone was a straight pervert who liked seeing girls dance together," Wakka muttered, though on the inside he was happy. He after all got to dance with Tidus and Tidus didn't seem to mind.
"I'm going to Luzzu's" Chappu told Wakka when they pulled up to their house.
"He's spending the night, and get that smirk off your face," Luzzu rolled his eyes, looking at Wakka.
Tidus and Wakka laughed, "we can't help but wonder..." Tidus began.
"It's non of your business anyway, and it's going to be totally innocent." Luzzu said.
"His mom's home." Chappu pointed out.
"See ya!" Chappu jumped out of his truck and he and Luzzu walked over to Luzzu's house.
Tidus smiled, looking at his house. He sighed, then looked at Wakka. "Umm, bye." he said.
"Hey," Wakka looked at Tidus, "what's wrong?"
"Hmm, what do you mean?" Tidus asked.
"Just that for a minute you seemed upset." Wakka said.
"Oh, umm, Rin and Auron took Abby to visit Rin's family for the weekend. The house is eerie when I'm all alone."
"Well..." Wakka shuffled his feet, "if you want... you could spend the night with me, but I understand if you don't want to. I'm all alone too. We can keep each other company."
"Oh, well, uhh," Tidus bit his lip, "I guess... you don't really care if I stay with you?"
"Of course I don't care!" Wakka shook his head, "you're welcome over anytime."
"Thanks," Tidus smiled, "okay, but I have to go home to get some things."
"Okay, came on in the house when you're ready. I'll be in my room."
