Chapter 3

Rinoa looked up at Squall, and started to sputter, “S. . . . Squall . . . h . . . how long have you been there?” Rinoa backed away from the five people who were staring at her. Zak and Sean didn’t even know her and Squall, but they were equally appalled by Rinoa’s behavior.

“Dude that was cold,” Zak whispered to Sean. He was talking about what Rinoa said about Squall.

“Sure was. We should leave,” Sean was felling very uncomfortable. “We don’t have any business here.”

Zak nodded, and the two boys slipped away, before Squall decided to take his anger out on one of them. Of course they didn’t know Squall wasn’t like that. So they fled.

Squall looked at Rinoa, resisting the urge to slap her. He didn’t hit girls. Shiva on the other hand had other ideas.

That little two-timing cow! Ohhh, if you don’t break it off with her, I’m going to summon myself and kick her a. . . .

Shiva . . . do you think I’m stupid enough to stay with her after this?

What about, ‘I owe it to her,’ and all that other blah blah nonsense?

Sarcastic, are we? I thought I did, but if this is what she’s doing behind my back, I don’t owe her anything.

So what are you going to do!

Well the words ‘dump her skinny a. . . .

Haha, that’s my boy. If she was in human form, she would have pulled Squall into a motherly hug, right after she dealt with the brown-haired she-biatch.

Quistis and Zell waited patiently for Squall to answer Rinoa. Both were itching to tell the girl off, but this was Squall’s job. Zell walked over to Quistis and leaned against the taller girl. Quistis smiled down at him, and put her arm around his shoulders.

Squall’s eyes flickered to them, before he looked back to Rinoa, who was trying her best to look like the victim.

“Squall, please answer me . . . ” Rinoa cried. “I’ve done nothing wrong . . . ” She looked at Quistis, “she and her boyfriend, Zell played me . . . they set me up!”

“Hmm, so they made you say those things, did they?” Squall’s voice was calm and cool, but Zell could detect the anger that he was trying so hard to keep at bay.

Rinoa’s make up was washing down her tear stained face, making her look more hideous by the minute. With trembling hands she rubbed at her face making more of a mess. “Squall . . . please baby . . . ”

“Gag me,” Zell rolled his eyes, whispering to Quistis.

Squall put a hand out, “I don’t want to hear it. Why would Quistis and Zell want to set you up? What sort of motive would they have?”

Rinoa was lost for words at that. She tried to think of a reason, but only one came to her little brain, “well, did you ever think, Quistis maybe wanted you for herself!”

Squall’s face went blank, as he looked over at Quistis. Quistis shook her head no.

“She did have a crush on me, true.” Quistis was amazed. She didn’t ever tell Squall that. “But she no longer feels that way, I can tell.” Squall shook his head, “that’s a shame really, she or any of my other friends would make better companions then you.”

“What!” Rinoa was starting to feel that this was a lost cause. “You can’t mean that. Even hyper, Selphie?” Rinoa sneered, “or one of the guys?”

Squall grinned. It was true he would never think of Selphie or Quistis in dating terms, but they would make better companions, then a two timer. And if he was gay, Zell and well maybe Irvine would be faithful. “Of course. None of them would two time me. And if I was gay, then yes. Zell is ten . . . no five hundred times a better person then you. And if he was gay, he wouldn’t two time me, either. As for Irvine, he may be a player, but you don’t see him playing the field now that he’s dating Selphie. So he would even be a better choice then you. ”

Zell didn’t know if he should be happy, or sad. Squall just said he wasn’t gay, but he did give him a wonderful complement. For now Zell, would let that, ‘and if I was gay,’ comment go.

Rinoa’s face went red, “I knew something was wrong with you!”

Squall shrugged, “yeah, you’re right. Something WAS wrong with me. But not anymore. Leave. I’m requesting your immediate transfer to Galbadia Garden.” Hmm, there seems to be some perks to being the headmaster of Balamb Garden, after all.

“Ohh,” Rinoa fumed. “I should of never signed up to be a SeeD.” Rinoa was about to run off, when Quistis stopped her.

“I know the guys won’t do this, but I have no problem doing it.” Quistis smiled, sweetly, and slapped Rinoa across her left cheek. “Don’t EVER treat any of my friends like that again!”

Rinoa’s hands went to her face in surprise. “DID YOU SEE THAT, SQUALL?” She turned to Squall, “You’re the headmaster! You have to expel her! It’s your job.”

Squall shrugged, “sorry Rinoa, I didn’t see anything.”

Rinoa stomped the ground, and glared at Quistis before running down the hallway, entering the dorms’ hallway.

Quistis turned to Squall, “you didn’t see anything?” She rolled her eyes and smirked.

“Of course not.” Squall gave Quistis and Zell a small smile, before taking off.

“You think he’ll be okay,” Zell asked, sounding worried?

Quistis thought for a few moments, thoughtfully stroking her chin, “well I expect he’ll be sore a few days. He did after all just have a tumor surgically removed from his side.”

Zell bit his bottom lip, and nodded, “that’s true. I hope he didn’t really like her . . . ”

Quistis put her hands on her hips, “Zell for the last time, he didn’t! Remember what I said: You don’t act annoyed by the presents of someone you’re supposed to love. Well it’s okay if you’re annoyed sometimes, but not 24/7. And he seemed annoyed 24/7.”

Zell smiled, “okay. I guess you’re right.”

“That’s more like it, young man. Now come on, let’s go fill Selphie and Irvine in. They’ll want to know how the plan worked out.”

Selphie was having trouble keeping her laughter in, as she listened to Zell and Quistis recite what happened.

“He said he’d rather date Irvy,” she giggled.

Irvine made a face and rolled his eyes. “They didn’t say that. You’re just a rabid Yaoi fangirl, so you have to twist their words around.”

Quistis looked at Selphie and nodded, “oh well, he did say that in a way.”

Irvine rolled his eyes again, when Selphie swooned, fanning herself. “Girls,” he muttered.

“He said, that IF,” Zell sighed, “he was gay, that Irvine and I would be better companions then Rinoa.”

“Oh Zell don’t be that way,” Quistis sighed, “at least he didn’t look appalled when Rinoa suggested it.”

“So you’re say I still have a chance,” Zell whispered?

Quistis shrugged, “you never know. And you really can’t know till you at least let him know you’re gay. You don’t even have to tell him you’re in love with him. Just drop the bomb, and maybe . . . I don’t know . . . just tell him.”

Zell laughed, “you know, Quisty you’re very good at these sort of speeches,” he teased.

“Oh shut up.” Quistis stuck her tongue at the blonde-haired fighter.

Irvine looked at Selphie and nodded at Zell. Selphie got what he meant and nodded, a wide smile on her face.

“Don’t worry,” Irvine cooed, going over to Zell and pulling him into a hug, “there’s always me, if things with lion boy don’t work out.”

Quistis and Selphie burst out laughing, as Zell pushed Irvine away, a slight blush on his cheeks. “Eww, don’t go there, Irvine.”

“I’m insulted, really I am.” Irvine looked at Selphie and shrugged, “sorry baby, no threesomes.”

Selphie rolled her eyes, “as if, we’ve ever had sex, Irvy.”

“Hey women, don’t say that. Now everyone is going to question my manliness.”

“Don’t call me women, cowboy!”

Quistis and Zell eyed each other and quietly slipped away from the bickering couple.

Squall set down at his desk, sighing. Why in the Gaia did he feel so down? It wasn’t as if he ever really loved Rinoa. But it did still hurt that someone he was dating was being unfaithful.

How come I didn’t see it before?

Squall, don’t beat yourself up over this. She played everyone. You saw how shocked Quistis looked. And how angry Zell looked. Man, that boy truly cares about you. If she had a body, she would of smirked. She of course know just how much this Zell cared about her Squall. And it didn’t hurt for her to drop little hints here and there.

What?

Of course you couldn’t see him, because he was standing behind you, but when Rinoa started to talk about . . . well you remember, he got this sad look on his face. Like he hated the thought of you being hurt. Then he looked like he wanted to . . . well push her down the stairs.

Squall snorted, Why would he feel that way?

I don’t know. But he is the sweetest boy. And he does truly CARE about you. You are one of his friends, after all.

I guess. Zell would never push anyone down the stairs though, certainly not for me.

I just said he looked that way. Quistis looked quite mad too.

Yeah, I happened upon some good friends.

Irvine too.

Yeah, Irvine too. Shiva, you’re sure talking a lot more then usual.

What can I say, ever since they fixed that little, ‘sucks the host’s memories’ thing, and you’ve had me junctioned more . . .

Squall smiled, I understand. You’re a girl and you like to talk.

Sexist comment, but yeah. Um, Squall there’s someone in your office.

Huh, oh . . . “Yeah,” Squall grabbed his paperwork and tried to look like he wasn’t lazing around. The blonde slowly turned around and Squall gasped.

“Whoa, Puberty-boy. Remember, I’m clean, no one in my head anymore.”

“Seifer,” Squall sighed, “what do you want?”

“Is that anyway to act, after we’ve been apart so long,” Seifer faked sadness.

Squall rolled his eyes, “should I be jumping up and down for joy?”

“Hmm, touche.” Seifer sighed, “the past is the past right? I want back in Garden.”

Would it be crazy to let him back in, Shiva?

No Squall, he didn’t have control. You have to admit that. And although he may not be the most likeable guy, you really have no grounds to send him away. He certainly qualifies.

The guys are going to kill me.

You never know. Maybe he wants to turn over a new leaf. He doesn’t seem like he did before he was possessed.

Squall looked at Seifer and had to agree with Shiva. He was calmly waiting for Squall to answer and he didn’t have that usual smirk on his face.

“Fill out this paperwork,” Squall opened his desk and took out the proper paperwork and handed it to a surprised looking Seifer.

“You mean you’re really going to let me back in?”

“Why wouldn’t I? You do qualify, do you not?” Squall smirked, “unless you’ve slacked on your gunblade training.”

“No way, baby! I would never do that,” Seifer looked horrified, that someone would even suggest that.

Squall rolled his eyes. “Refrain from calling me, baby.”

Seifer laughed, “I was talking to my gunblade.”

“Sure,” Squall rolled his eyes again. “Fill that out, then hand it to my secretary. You get a call after we go over it.”

Seifer nodded, and left Squall’s office.

What have I gotten myself into?

I’m sure everything will be fine . . . unless he really did call you baby. Ohh, Seifer has a crush!

Shiva don’t even go there. If I were gay, I may consider Irvine and Zell, but never Seifer!

Yeah, yeah, okay. Yum, Zell would be a good boyfriend. Man, how I wish I was human, so I could kiss those sweet soft lips, feel him wrap those warm arms around me . . . hear him say, ‘I love you.’ Ahh it would be so wonderful. You’re so lucky, you’re human. You can have all those things . . . maybe not with Zell, but with someone.

Shiva would of smirked, if she could. Think over those things for a bit, she thought so only she could hear.
