Selphie was sitting across from him, with a weird happy look on her face. “I hit her.”
“You mean you really did it?” Irvine was amazed. He didn’t think Selphie would really hit Rinoa for no reason.
“Yes . . . but it sort of just happened. She said something, and it made me mad.” And sick!
Irvine raised his eyebrow. “What did she say,” he smirked, “did she hit on you?”
“Oh haha, very funny,” Selphie muttered, rolling her eyes. “If she had done that, then she’d be in the infirmary.”
“Oh!”
“Yes, Quistis has quite the temper, when it comes to me,” Selphie said, with a fond giggle.
“I see. So what did Rinoa do?” Irvine reached over and picked up his cup, taking a long drink.
“Well . . . promise you won’t storm off and kill her?”
Irvine rolled his eyes, “I don’t just kill people, you know.” Unless its self defense or a saving the world kind of thing, or it’s part of a mission, like when we had to try and assassinate Edna.
Selphie grinned, “I know . . . but . . . okay. I’ll tell you. Rinoa asked me to help her seduce Squall.”
Irvine wrinkled his nose, “eww, that’s gross. So that’s why you slapped her?”
Selphie giggled, “yes. It took a lot of work to get you guys together, and I am not about to let her ruin everything.”
Irvine smiled, “thanks, Selphie.”
“No prob, Irvy.”
A young girl of about fifteen was walking through town. A small smile was playing on her rosy red lips. Her hands were swinging happily at her sides, and she was humming what sounded like a little love song. The wind was light, but her caramel brown waist length hair was flowing in the breeze. Her green eyes fluttered up, when she heard the sound of a mother bird, talking back and forth with its baby blue jays. The girl smiled, her thoughts turning to her new boyfriend. Thinking of him made her sigh in happiness. It wasn’t long, before she was lost in another world. She couldn’t believe that after two years of having a crush on him, he finally told her he felt the same way.
So lost in her thoughts, was she, that she didn’t notice the dark figure approach her. She didn’t notice the glare off the knife either. And it was too late when she did notice. The mysterious person grabbed the girl from around her waist, spinning her around. She cried out in fear, and struggled to get free. A sinister chuckle met her ears and the girl paled.
“Please,” she begged.
The knife flashed, and metal met flesh.
Gasping in pain, the girl looked up in the dark eyes of the mysterious person, who was clothed in a dark raincoat. The hood was up, and their face was covered in shadows. The girl blinked, once, twice, three times, and her mouth opened, as she tried to form words.
“W...who . . . why . . . ” she mumbled before falling to the ground?
“Who indeed,” a low voice spoke. The figure bent down, retrieving the knife. A snicker sounded, as the person walked away, the dripping of her blood, falling from the knife, the only other sound.
Coming to a stop, a safe distance away from the body, the person sniffed the knife, giving it a lick. “The spilt blood of a virgin is the sweetest. So pure.”
“Oh no!” Everyone at the breakfast table looked up at Zell in surprise.
“What’s wrong, baby,” Seifer asked in concern?
“THE VIRGIN SERIAL KILLER STRIKES AGAIN,” Zell screamed, reading from the Garden newsletter.
“Huh,” Selphie blinked in surprise. “Again?”
Irvine sadly nodded, “yeah. You didn’t know. This one will make it his or hers third kill. Two guys and . . . ”
“One girl,” Zell informed everyone. “Listen to this. Kaila Parker, age fifteen, was found last night in the streets of Balamb. It appears that the young teen was taking a late night walk when the attacker confronted her. She was stabbed in the heart, and almost died at once. Kaila was preceded by her father Mark Parker, who died in the sorceress wars. She lived at home with her mother Sauria Parker, her mother’s best friend, Gina Days, and her ten-year-old brother Tam Parker.”
Selphie felt her eyes misting, “that’s so sad.”
Rinoa, who wasn’t really listening, nodded, “yeah.”
“I wonder when they’re going to ask Garden to get involved,” Seifer muttered.
Irvine shrugged, “who knows, if or when they will.”
“So who were the other guys,” Quistis asked?
Irvine squinted his eyes, trying to remember what he had seen on the news.
Kin Sores, eighteen a student in Dollet, was found last night in a cafe’s dumpster. His throat had been slashed. Kin, who worked at the place, had been taking the trash out when the attacker approached him. His boyfriend, Jay Teller, was the first on the scene. He was concerned when Kin didn’t come back. The security cameras caught everything, but we’re sad to report, the attacker was completely covered up.
Irvine repeated everything Siren had told him, thankful the GF had a better memory then him.
“Geez, and they’re sure the serial killer is only going after virgins,” Zell asked, with a shudder?
“Yeah,” Irvine nodded, “that’s the only thing the three victim had in common. That and they were all killed using the same weapon.”
“What happened to the other guy,” Selphie whispered?
Irvine remembered this answer, “Jay Teller, was killed three days after Kin was. He was slashed across the stomach.” Irvine sighed, “he was only sixteen.”
“So two gay lovers and a young girl were murdered, and they were all virgins,” Seifer muttered.
“Yeah, I’d say this killer was against gay virgins, if he or she hadn’t killed the girl,” Zell said.
“Yeah . . . but,” Selphie jumped up, looking like a light bulb went off over her head. “What if her mother was bi. And the best friend, Gina was her girlfriend. Then the ‘I’m against gays’ would make sense.”
“But her mother wasn’t a virgin,” Zell reminded her.
“Well maybe he or she just has a thing for virgins. That’s so sick.” Rinoa stood up, wrinkling her nose. She had finally heard a bit of what they were talking about.
“And someone being after gay people is not,” Irvine spoke, surprising Rinoa with the hint of anger in his voice?
Rinoa waved her hand, “oh sure.”
Everyone rolled her eyes, and watched as the brown haired girl left.
“Wonder if she’s a virgin,” Irvine grumbled?
“We can only hope,” Seifer half teased.
“Well, does anyone want to have sex with me,” Zell said, to lighten the mood?
“Me too,” Selphie said, feeling scared. “Maybe us virgins can have a big . . . ” she trailed off, tears coming to her eyes. “I didn’t know saving yourself could be so dangerous.”
Quistis leaned over, patting her on the back, “shh, you’ll be fine. We’ll take care of each other.”
Selphie smiled, “okay, thanks.”
“Okay um, since were all good friends . . . yes Seifer we include you in the we, I think we should be honest with each other. Who here’s a virgin? It’s just to be safe, and to keep an eye on each other and make sure no strange people are following us. I suspect that before they were killed, the attacker stalked and learned everything about them.”
Everyone blushed, but nodded, Quistis had a point.
“Virgin,” Selphie looked down.
Quistis nodded, “virgin as well.”
Squall sighed, this wasn’t something he liked to talk to others about, “yeah I’m still a virgin.”
“Virgin,” Irvine blushed, “yeah it’s true,” he said when everyone gave him surprised looks, “everything you’ve heard about me was only rumors.”
“Virgin,” Zell turned a deep purple.
Quistis smiled a Seifer, “and we know you’re not a virgin . . . ”
“Wait,” Seifer shook his head, “I am.”
“WHAT?” The whole table gasped in surprise.
“Fu and Ra have big mouths and they spread a lot of rumors about me. None of them true.”
Zell smiled, feeling strangely pleased that Seifer was a virgin too. But he also felt fear. What if they attacked him next. He wouldn’t be able to live if that happened.
“Okay, remember to be very observant. If you see or hear anything other then the norm, tell everyone at once,” Quistis informed everyone.
Everyone agreed, standing up, and headed their separate ways.
