This time when Sora threw a rock at Kairi’s window nobody came to see what the noise was about. Sora looked at Roxas and shrugged. “It’s late and she’s a sound sleeper.”
Roxas pouted, “I really want to see him.”
Sora sighed, “Look Roxas, you have to be reasonable. It’s really late out and everyone’s asleep, including Axel.”
“I know…”
“I know Axel would be thrilled to see you and he probably wouldn’t mind you waking him up, but Kairi’s mom might get angry if we sneak in and wake up Kairi. And personally I don’t want to get Kairi into trouble”
“Me neither, but, promise me Sora. First thing tomorrow we go see Axel.” Roxas looked at Sora, his eyes wide. He looked like a child begging his mom to take him to a candy store. Really adorable.
Sora smiled, “I promise!”
---
The next morning, Roxas and Sora managed to sneak out of Sora’s house without Sora’s mother seeing the Sora look-a-like. It would be hard to explain Roxas at the moment, as they had no story ready. So it was a good thing they got out and to Kairi’s house without being seen by anyone too important.
They had passed one little girl, Sora knew. The little six year old named Eiko had looked at Sora and Roxas and exclaimed, “ahh, two Sora’s! Mommy, daddy, there’s two Sora’s!”
While Eiko was being consoled by her mother and father, Garnet and Zidane Tribal, Sora and Roxas ran away.
Roxas was laughing as he looked up at Kairi’s house.
“Poor kid.” he giggled, “think we traumatized her for life?”
Sora laughed, “maybe, but I think she’d be used to traumatizing things.” Sora said, with a knowing smile.
“Why, what do you mean?”
“Well, you know her mom and dad? The blond and the brunette?”
Roxas nodded.
“Well, Eiko’s their daughter, but…. Well, a man named Kuja lives with them and they’re like a threesome.” Sora said with wide eyes. “That’s a true story, honestly.”
Roxas crinkled up his nose. He couldn’t imagine for the life of him being okay with his lover being with another person and with him in the same room, no less.
“You’re not just making that up, are you?” Roxas asked. Sora shook his head.
Roxas opened his mouth to say something, but was hushed by Sora’s hand going over his lips. “Shh, look.”
Sora pulled Roxas behind a bush and they both watched as Kairi’s mother left the house.
Roxas grinned, his whole body quaking in excitement, “now we can go in and see Axel.”
Sora nodded, “how do you want to do this?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well do you just want to walk in and be like, “oh, hi, Axel.” or should I go in and sorta break it to him gentle?”
Roxas rolled his eyes, “Axel’s done his fair share of startling me, so it’s my turn to startle him. Let’s just walk in.”
Sora nodded, “kay.”
---
Grabbing the spare key from under the welcome mat, Sora let him and Roxas into Kairi’s house. Well, now it was Kairi and Axel’s house, since Kairi’s mom was still under the impression that Axel was Kairi’s brother. Mrs. Stone was such a trusting person, she didn’t even think to have Kairi and Axel tested to see if they were really siblings. She just welcomed Axel into her home with open arms.
Tip-toeing, Sora and Roxas made their way through the decent sized house, trying not to make too much noise.
Roxas’ stomach was doing flip-flops by the time he’d reached the room where Axel was staying.
“Go for it.” Sora encouraged.
Gulping, Roxas reached out for the doorknob, turning it.
Axel looked up, expecting to see Kairi when he heard his door open. What he saw made his jaw drop and his heart do a little pitter-patter dance.
“Roxas?” Axel breathed.
Roxas grinned, “long time no see, Axel. So, did you miss me?”
Instead of answering, Axel rushed across the room, throwing himself at Roxas, knocking them both over. They fell into a heap on the floor.
Sora grinned, making an excuse about something so he could leave the two alone.
Tears filled Roxas’ eyes as he looked into Axel’s.
“How can you ask that?” Axel whispered, reaching out to dry the tears that were now flowing down Roxas’ cheeks. “Of course I missed you.”
“I thought I’d never be able to see you again.” Axel murmured.
“I thought the same thing.” Roxas whispered.
“There’s been something weighing on my mind for the longest time. I regretted not telling you sooner, but no matter the outcome, I’m going to tell you know. I want no more regrets or ‘what ifs’” Axel took a shuddering breath.
“I love you, Roxas. I love you more then the need to breath; I love you more then all the worlds and universes combined; I love your smile; I love your laughter; I even love your annoying habits; I love everything about you.”
Roxas, by this time was as red as a tomato, a very ripe tomato; he hugged Axel tighter, crying into his shirt.
“Axel,” Roxas sobbed, “I wanted to tell you, too, but the right time never came, then before I knew it, you were dead and then I was sent back to live in Sora’s heart.”
“I love you, too!” Roxas yelled. “I had a heart when I shouldn’t of; it was you that helped me find my heart.”
Axel smiled, sitting up, and pulling Roxas comfortably into his lap. Roxas blushed, but snuggled into his arms.
“Axel,” Roxas looked up at Axel, a happy look on his face, “since we’ve confessed and all… what does that make us?”
“Well, I hope that makes us boyfriends.” Axel smirked, “in other words, I’m asking if you’d like to be my boyfriend?”
“Yes!” Roxas nodded, “I wanna be your boyfriend.”
“Good, so, then, would you mind if I kissed you?” Axel asked, already dangerously close to Roxas’ mouth.
