Chapter 2
Sora had ran out of his house all excited about going out with his friends, when he remembered everyone was busy. In a bitter mood, he went to the shore of the main island, untying his boat, and traveling to Play Island, where the kids of Destiny Island hung out without the worries of their parents.
Having nothing to do, Sora climbed the roof of the shack, and lied on his back, looking up at the passing clouds.
After laying for about a half hour Sora started to worry he didn’t tie his boat up properly. He scrunched his nose, trying to remember. I had to of, he thought to himself, kicking his feet in frustrative boredom.
Sora jumped sky high, when he heard someone on the beach giggle. Sora looked down, seeing a young girl of about fourteen looking at him. The girl wore a white shirt that showed of her belly button, and a pair of purple shorts. She was looking at Sora, her hand above her head, to block out the sun.
“Who are you,” Sora grumbled, his face red from the embarrassment of being caught acting like a child? You are a child. Sora reminded himself. Well, a teenager at least. He was after all fourteen.
The girl pulled on her long brown pigtails, pondering Sora. He seems nice. I’m glad to finally meet someone my age. Geez, when dad said we were moving here, I thought it was the end of the world. Smiling, the girl walked to the shack and grabbed the edge, pulling herself up. She walked over to Sora and set down next to him.
“I’m Yuffie Kisaragi,” Yuffie said, snapping her bubble gum.
“Oh,” Sora smiled. Yuffie was a welcome sight. Sora hated feeling lonely. “Are you new in town?” She has to be. Why else would she be here on Play Island. People from the main land, never come here.
Yuffie giggled, “duh. Why else would I be here. My dad got transferred to Round Island. I used to live on the main land.” Round Island, was where most of the people of Destiny Island lived.
Sora decided he liked this girl. She seemed nice enough. “Sorry to hear that,” he teased, “not much happens on the Islands.”
Yuffie nodded, “I know! I gave my dad a lot of grief when he told me, we were moving here.”
Sora laughed, “Man, I feel sorry for your dad.”
“Hey,” Yuffie pouted. “I let it go really quick, when I realized nothing I did would change his mind.” Yuffie yawned, laying on her back. “It is really pretty here though, I can’t deny that.” Yuffie propped herself up on one elbow, “say, you’ve never told me your name.”
“Oh. I’m Sora Leonheart.”
Yuffie blinked her eyes in surprise, “really? Are you related to Ellone Leonheart?”
Sora nodded, “yeah. My sister.”
“Wow. Can you sing like her?” Yuffie set up looking at Sora with wide, excited eyes.
“Um . . . I’m not sure.” Sora missed his sister, Ellone a lot. But right now she was touring the world with her band, Shiva’s Song. So now all he had was his brother Squall and his mother and father.
“I’m sure you can. Shiva’s Song is my favorite band. I love those girls. You know what: I even have all their names memorized. Yuna Stevens, Ellone Leonheart, Lulu Awayuki, and Lenne Stevens. 1000 Words is my fave song, by them. ”
Yuffie stood up and started to belt out the said song.
I know that your hiding things
Using gentle words to shelter me

Sora smiled, listing to Yuffie sing. Her voice wasn’t so bad. Not as good as Yuna and Ellone when they sang it, but quite good.
I acted so distant then
Didn't say goodbye before you left

You fight your battles far from me
Far too easily
Wow, she’s memorized the whole song!
"Save your tears cause I'll come back"
I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door
But still I swore
To hide the pain, when I turn back the pages

Yuffie threw her arms out, really getting into the song, seeming to forget Sora was there.

Sora smiled and added the back up words, Lenne and Lulu usually sang.

Yuffie set back down, “whoo, I love that song. Say, Sora you have a nice voice.”
Sora blushed, “thanks. You know, I helped Ellone write that song.”
“You did! Wow! That’s amazing.”
“Thanks, I’m in the CD credits and everything.”
“Wow, I’ve got to read the credits now!”
Sora smirked, “you know what, you’re a groupe.”
“Nah uh.”
“Sora giggled, “you are too. Shiva’s Song is the only thing exciting to ever happen to us. Ellone and Lulu were best friends, who entered a talent contest. A talent scout loved them so much. She set them up with Yuna and Lenne.”
“You said Lulu: Does that mean she lives here too?”
“Yes, when she and Ellone are not touring, they live on Round Island. Lulu’s mine and Ellone’s next door neighbor. My best friend, Riku’s sister.”
“So any other celebrities live here,” Yuffie asked?
“No, not really, unless you count Wakka,” Sora said.
“Who?”
Sora laughed, “I guess you don’t count him. He’s a local legend. Ace Blitzball player for his school team.”
“Oh, Blitzball isn’t that popular on the main land.”
Sora nodded, “yeah, it didn’t really pick up here, till about a year ago.”
“So, Sora, what are you doing here on . . . ” Yuffie looked around, “this island, all by yourself?”
“We call it Play Island. Well, I was doing nothing, but being bored.”
“Oh,” Yuffie raised her eyebrow, “was that what that little fit was about?”
Sora blushed, “I thought I was alone.”
“Obviously,” Yuffie giggled. “Where’s all your friends?”
Sora set up, sighing, “Riku went to visit a friend of his mom. Selphie and Kairi went to dance class. And Wakka and Tidus are at Blitzball practice.”
Yuffie looked at the clear blue sky, “do you think they’ll like me?”
Sora scrunched up his nose, thinking, “I think so. I know Selphie and Kairi will like you right away. Another girl for them to do girly things with. Tidus will too, almost at once. He’s a really nice guy. Wakka too. Riku might be distant at first, but I’m sure he’ll like you in no time.”
Yuffie smiled, “I’m glad. I didn’t have many friends on the main land, because we moved around a lot. But this is supposed to be the last move.”
Sora jumped up, grabbing Yuffie’s hand. “Well you’ve already made one friend,” he said, pulling her up. “Let’s go to Paopu Island and duel.”
Yuffie beamed, “okay.”
Sora and Yuffie ran for shore, jumping into their boats. “Follow me, so you don’t get lost.” Yuffie nodded, and followed Sora’s boat, till they arrived on Paopu Island.
“So what is a Paopu,” Yuffie asked, tying up her boat?
Sora blushed, “Legend says . . . that if you share a paopu with someone, your destinies become intertwined. You’ll be apart of each others lives forever, no matter what.”
Yuffie grinned. That sounded lovely. Very romantic. “Do you believe in the legend?”
“Sort of,” Sora said, blushing brightly.
“So you wouldn’t share one with me,” Yuffie teased?
“NO! Um, I mean no. It’s really something lovers do.”
Yuffie smirked, “so do you have a lover,” she asked in a sing song voice?
His face getting redder, Sora shook his head, “n..no of course not.”
“Oh,” Yuffie noticed the redness in Sora’s face, “but you do like someone?” Sora went to deny it, but Yuffie put out a hand, shushing him. “Hey don’t lie, I can tell.”
Sora shrugged, “maybe. I’m not sure.”
Yuffie laughed, “aww, how cute, you have a crush.”
Sora rolled his eyes, “maybe. I think I’m getting a crush.”
“Well, do tell: On who?”
“Yuffie! I can’t say!” Sora covered his face, and peeked out at Yuffie through his fingers.
“Don’t be shy! It’ll be our little secret.”
Sora walked over to the Paopu tree, and leaned against it, pondering over things. Should he tell Yuffie? It would be nice to tell someone. To finally get it off his chest, but he just met her. “I don’t know . . . I’ve only just met you . . . ”
Yuffie ran over to him and smiled, “and you don’t know if you can trust me yet.”
Sora nodded, “yeah. Sorry.”
“No, it’s okay, I understand. But you can trust me.” Yuffie raised her hand to her mouth, acting like she was zipping her lips shut. “Your secret would be safe with me.”
Sora giggled, “you remind me of Selphie and Kairi.”
“Really! Are they hyper like me,” Yuffie asked, jumping from foot to foot?
“Yes! They are always high on sugar, especially Selphie.”
Yuffie smiled, “oh cool, then I know I will like them. So Sora, do you trust me yet?”
Sora slid down the tree, tracing a circle in the sand, “I . . . ” Sora looked up at Yuffie’s bright, smiling face, “yes, but I hope you have an open mind.”
Yuffie looked at Sora, confusion on her face, “huh?”
Sora looked down, biting his lip, “do you?”
“Huh,” Yuffie repeated?
“Have an open mind?”
“I think so,” Yuffie nodded, “I’m sure I do. No body has ever asked me that. I’m not sure what you really mean.”
“Do you think any things wrong with a white girl, dating a black man?”
“No, of course not!”
“What about a man in his forties dating a girl in her twenties?”
“No, nothings wrong with that, as long as both are more than eighteen years old. We don’t want someone robbing the cradle.”
“Um, okay what about . . . agirldatingagirl?”
Yuffie blinked, “what?”
“A girl . . . um, dating a girl?”
“Oh! I um . . . ,” Yuffie paused, thinking. Did she mind a girl dating a girl? “In one of my schools there was a girl dating a girl. I thought it was weird, at first. But I could see how much they cared for each other. And pretty soon it didn’t seem weird or wrong, so I don’t mind.” And you did kiss a girl when you played spin the bottle at that coed slumber party. And you liked it! So does that mean . . . geez, now I’m confused.
Sora smiled, glad to hear this. “So you don’t mind a guy . . . liking another guy?”
Yuffie clapped her hands, startling Sora, “so that’s it! You have a crush on a guy!”
“I think so . . . I’m not sure. Everybody says it’s wrong . . . but . . . ”
“Hey Sora, I don’t mind, and I won’t tell anyone. Who is it?”
Sora blushed, looking back to his little doodle in the sand. “My best friend. Riku.”
“Oh,” Yuffie said, sitting down, next to Sora, “so does he . . . ”
Sora looked at Yuffie his eyes wide, “oh no! He doesn’t . . . he can’t know.”
Yuffie leaned over, surprising Sora with a hug. “I’m sorry, he doesn’t know. You should tell him.” Sora’s eyes went wide with fear.
“I...I can’t. I don’t think I could stand it . . . if he told me he didn’t feel the same way. And worse, what if he hated me.”
Yuffie frowned, “I don’t know him, so I can’t be sure. But if he is your best friend, I can’t see him hating you.”
“You’re right: You don’t know him, and I think he would.”
Yuffie sighed, “well, I hope you’re wrong.”
Sora felt a tear fall down his cheek, “I hope so too.”
Yuffie smiled, “I’m sure it’ll be fine. But you know, you do need to tell him. He has a right to know.”
“Yeah, I know. I’ll tell him . . . but . . . ”
Yuffie nodded, “that’s okay. Do it when you’re ready.”
“I will. You won’t say anything?”
“Of course not! Cross my heart and hope to kiss a hyena.”
Sora laughed, “I’ll make you kiss a hyena, if you tell.”
“Oh really?”
“Oh yes! Too bad they’re almost extinct. Kissing you might kill it,” Sora teased.
Yuffie stood up, pulling Sora to his feet, “Hey! That’s mean,” She said, mock pouting.
“Kidding, kidding,” Sora laughed, pulling away from Yuffie, running to the storage bin, where the island kids hid their duel weapons. He reached in, grabbing a wooden sword. “Duel time,” he yelled.
Yuffie yelled, when Sora started to chase her, “ahh, no fair! Sora, I don’t have a weapon yet!”
Sora just laughed, and continued to chase Yuffie around Paopu Island.

I got the lyrics from another fic, so I don’t know if they are the exact words. I think they are, but I’m not sure.
Yes, as I said this is AU. Squall is Sora’s Brother. Sephiroth is Riku’s Brother. I’m calling Squall by his real name, because I like it better. Oh, in case you were wondering, Auron’s Yuffie’s dad. Poll Time:
How do you want Riku to take the news that Sora has a crush on him?

B-At first he’s disgusted and/or surprised/mad, but soon realizes he feels the same way.
C-Pushes Sora away (Aww sad) because he want’s nothing to do with him anymore.
