After Riku had ran off after Sora, the others headed back to Kairi’s house; now everyone was sitting in the redhead’s room, looking out the window.
It was storming pretty bad out; Riku and Sora had been gone for exactly three hours.
It was now nearing midnight and everyone was out of their minds with worry.
“What if he didn’t make it?” Selphie fretted. The brunette was sitting on Kairi’s bed, biting her fingernails. Kairi was laying in the bed, her head in Selphie’s lap; she had fallen asleep a half hour earlier.
“I’m sure he did.” Wakka said, though in truth he was only saying that to make himself and everyone else feel better.
“But what if he didn’t?” Selphie absentmindedly threaded her fingers in Kairi’s hair.
“Well we can’t risk going to the island until we’re sure the storm is over.” Roxas advised. “The storms already came and went once; it could stop and start all over again as soon as we set out.”
Selphie nodded; she knew Roxas was right, but hated that they’d have to wait even longer.
“Let’s say he made it,” Yuffie grinned. “What do you think they’re doing to wait out the storm?”
Axel smirked. “Probably what Roxas and I do when we’re alone.”
“AXEL!” Roxas flushed red, as he smacked his boyfriend on the arm. Roxas crossed his arms, pouting. “For that comment, I’m cutting you off.”
Axel’s eyes went wide, “I was just teasing.”
Yuffie and Selphie started to laugh, while Wakka and Tidus flushed, looking at each other.
Wakka cleared his throat, looking away from Tidus. “Excuse me,” the teen mumbled, jumping up from where he was sitting on the floor. Tidus who was halfway in his lap tumbled to the floor with a little ‘oof’
Tidus blinked, watching Wakka run out of Kairi’s door.
“What was that about?” Tidus asked, clueless as usual. Axel smirked, about to say something, but one look from Roxas stopped him.
“Maybe he had to go to the bathroom,” Yuffie suggested, trying very hard not to fall over in a fit of laughter. One the other hand, Selphie wasn’t trying to stop her laughter at all; she was outright giggling, her face buried in Kairi’s hair. Kairi still slept on, undisturbed by what was going on in the room.
Tidus pouted, seeing a inside joke the others were sharing and he just didn’t get. Huffing, Tidus crossed his arms, looking at the bedroom door.

“Tell me again why I’m here?” A quiet voice asked.
Cloud and Squall were sitting in Cloud’s bedroom, both on the bed.
“Because Kairi and Sora talked us into being chaperones, since the adults didn’t want the kiddies spending the night unsupervised.”
Squall nodded, feeling a bit out of place. The teen seemed to go into Squall land, looking up at the ceiling as a thoughtful expression came over his features.
Cloud smiled, letting himself stare while the other was unaware. Squall was so mesmerizing; Cloud wondered if Squall had any idea just how beautiful he was.
Because of the way Squall was, Cloud didn’t doubt Squall had no idea just how appealing he was to others, especially Cloud.
Because they we both sitting on the bed at a very close proximity to each other, it was no surprise when Squall looked up, surprised when he felt Cloud moving closer to him.
Squall blinked. He looked at Cloud, who seemed to be in a daze. He was staring right at Squall, but didn’t seem to notice that Squall was looking right back.
There was a very good reason for that; Cloud much like Squall had, had slipped into his own world. A world where he was fantasizing about none other then Squall.
“Eh?” Squall let out a gasp, scooting back from Cloud when the other loomed closer to him. “Cloud, what are you doing?” Squall asked, surprised that his voice was shaky.
Cloud blinked, coming back to reality. His eyes went wide when he saw what he was doing… where his hands were and… how close he’d come to kissing Squall.
As if Squall’s waist (where Cloud’s hands now were) had caught on fire, Cloud jumped away from him, his face turning red.
“I’m sorry,” Cloud muttered, running a hand through his blond hair.
“You… you were going to kiss me!” Squall accused.
“What!?” Cloud yelled, vigorously shaking his head, “of course I wasn’t! Why would I want to do something like that?”
Squall frowned, looking away from Cloud. For a second there… he thought Cloud could maybe like him and knowing that made him really happy. But now he just felt empty inside. Cloud didn’t… couldn’t like him. Squall must have only imagined the almost kiss.
“Maybe I should leave,” Squall finally said. “Everyone’s probably in bed anyway. They don’t need me to chaperone anymore.”
“You don’t have to leave,” Cloud whispered. He’d heard what he could only describe as sadness in Squall’s voice. But why would Squall sound sad? Was it because he’d almost kissed him, or because he said something else to upset Squall?
Squall stood up, standing straight. The seventeen year old was still shorter then the twenty year old, but Squall tried to look taller, as he stared at Cloud.
“I’m not a child; I know some stuff. And you were about to kiss me, I just don’t know why.” Squall walked pass Cloud as if to leave the room, only to have Cloud grab his arm.
“I’m sorry! Please don’t be mad at me. Okay, maybe I did almost kiss you, but I won’t do it again, I promise.” Cloud held up his hands as if to say ‘scouts honor’
Something exploded in Squall’s heart and it took him a few moments to register that it was a ‘happy, butterflies in my stomach’ kinda feeling.
Squall tilted his head to the side, “but…” he said in a small voice, “what… what if I want you to?”
