A/N Remember this is AU. I just played and beat KH2, so I might add characters from that game, but don’t worry, I won’t do anything to spoil anyone. Like say anything about their part in KH2.

As they neared the school, Yuffie felt sick all of the sudden. Of course it was just nerves. How would the island kid take to this girl from the mainland? Would they include her right away or would they distance their selves from her for being a ‘mainlander?’
Kairi saw the panicked look on Yuffie’s face and walked over to her. "Hey. Don’t worry about it. The school is really small and I’m sure everyone will love you."
Yuffie nodded, with a grin on her face, "I’m sure you’re right. I just can’t help being nervous."
"Well, don’t be," Selphie said, running up to Yuffie’s side. "Me and Kairi are new here too, and we’re fine."
"Yeah . . . but you know everyone," Yuffie pointed out. They did live on a small cluster of islands after all, and probably met some of their classmates older siblings at their elementary school.
"Yeah, but not really well. I mean Selphie and I really only hang out with Sora, Riku, Wakka and Tidus. There are other kids that live on various islands around here that we see from time to time, but we don’t really know them." Selphie said. She pointed to someone.
"See that guy?"
Yuffie looked and blushed. A boy of about 15 was standing a few yards away from them. He was blonde and very handsome, with a scar, much like the scar on Squall’s face, running across his nose. "Yeah, what about him?"
"He and some of his friends live on an island called Twilight Town. (AN-That’s a name of a town in KH2, but is an island in this) The islands only have the one school, so he and the others have to take a ferry here every day. So you see we don’t know everyone very well."
Yuffie nodded, "okay, I get your point." Yuffie smiled, "I feel better now."
"Good." Kairi grabbed Yuffie’s hand and Selphie took the other. "Let’s go to the principle’s office, so you can get your class list."
Nodding, Yuffie let herself be dragged off.
Sora jumped, the loud voice coming very close to his ear. He and Riku had just entered the front doors, Wakka and Tidus trailing behind.
Turning around, Sora smiled, seeing a small blonde girl. "Oh, hey Namine."
Namine, who wore a pure white sundress, smiled, "I’m so excited. My first day. Well, see you around Sora." Namine giggled and ran down the hallways.
"Ya think someone should tell her about the, ‘no running in the halls’ rule?"
Sora looked at Riku and couldn’t help himself. "Hahaha," he laughed, "like you’re one to talk. I seem to remember you getting in trouble last year for running."
Riku put his hands on his hips and gave a cute pout. "No fair, you know very well why I was running!"
Sora laughed, "yes I do," Sora said. "Ri-ku," he teased, "is being chased by three fangirls really so scary, that you had to break a rule? Hmmm?"
Riku huffed, "they WERE scary. One of them looked like Mr. Wallace." Barret Wallace was the schools’ large principle.
"Riku, that’s not very nice," Sora scolded.
"What? It’s not like I’m lying," Riku said in his defense.
Riku had him there, "okay, but don’t say that again. What if she heard you? That would probably really hurt her, ya know."
Riku smiled, "Sora. Always thinking of others. Your heart must really be pure. I don’t think you’ve ever been mad or mean to anyone."
Nobody but myself. I keep beating myself up for liking you. I wish I could just come out and say it, but I know I never will.
Riku noticed that Sora’s eyes looked dazed, like he was in deep thought. "Hey," he gently placed his hand on Sora’s shoulder, blinking in surprise when Sora flinched. "You okay?"
Sora gulped, "oh, sure. Sorry." Riku, why must you touch me like that? So gentle. Will you still be gentle with me when you learn the truth?
"Good. Now come on."
Riku and Sora said goodbye and headed for their classes. Before Sora disappeared from Riku’s view, Riku gave him a worried glance.
Wakka nudged Tidus, "hey, what are you doing here?"
Wakka was in ninth grade and Tidus was in eights grade, so they shouldn’t be in the same class.
"My class list says I have Gym this period," Tidus said, showing his list to Wakka.
"Oh, so does mine." Wakka looked around and finally noticed that the class was a mixture of seventh, eighth and ninth graders. He also saw that it was mixed. Usually gym classes kept the boy and girls separate. "This is different. I wonder why were mixed like this."
On the other side of the room, Sora and Riku were wondering the same thing.
"This is weird," Sora muttered. "I’m an eighth grader, you’re in ninth . . . " he trailed off, noticing Kairi and Selphie. "Seventh graders too."
"Wow, this is so cool!" Selphie exclaimed. She and Kairi ran over to Sora and Riku, "we get to play with the big boys."
Kairi giggled and pointed to one of the ninth grade boys. "Not all of them are ‘big boys.’
Selphie rolled her eyes, "I know that. Duh, I didn’t mean big as in size."
"Big as in brains," Riku asked?
"Yeh right," Kairi, Selphie, and Yuffie who had been close by, said at the same time.
"Ouch," Sora, Riku, and Wakka and Tidus, who had wondered over, said.
---
They gym teacher cleared her throat, getting everyone’s attention. "Hello. As most of you may have noticed, you are mixed between grades seventh through ninth and also boys and girls."
"Yeah, why?" Someone asked.
"I’ll get to that," the women smiled, "but first, I should tell you who I am."
"I’m Rikku Highwind," the small blonde smiled. If only the student knew what this Rikku had in store for them.
Riku and his friends all gasped. What, no way. Someone else with the same name.
"Hey, are you lot okay," Rikku asked, noticing how strange Riku’s group of friends were acting?
"Sorry ma’am," Sora smiled, "it’s just your name surprised us." He pointed to Riku, "his name is Riku."
"Wow, no way," Rikku shouted. Everyone raised their eyebrows. Man was this girl hyper. "This is strange. How do you spell it?"
"R-I-K-U," Riku spelled.
"Oh, well my name is spelled with a double K. It shouldn’t really be a problem, since Bar . . . I mean Mr. Wallace said everyone has to call me Mrs. Highwind. Makes me feel old," Rikku muttered.
"Good," Riku said.
"Say, Mrs. Highwind, do you mind me asking, how old are you?"
Rikku shook her head no, "I’m eighteen." She looked at the girl who asked her the question, "and you are?"
"Oh, sorry. I’m Kairi. Seventh grade."
Everyone started to mutter and talk to each other, surprised that their new teacher was only eighteen.
Rikku smiled, "yeah, yeah I know. It may be hard to believe, but I’ve been out of school for a few years. I graduated when I was sixteen."
"Wow," Selphie exclaimed. "You must be smart!"
"Nah . . . well yeah, but I’m not one of those super nerdy bookworms . . . oops sorry if I offended anyone. I’m not used to being the authority figure."
Everyone started to laugh at the sheepish looking Rikku.
"Good, guess I didn’t offend anyone." Rikku clapped, with a wide grin on her face. "Now it’s time to tell you why class is so mixed like this."
Rikku nodded, "yes. The theme for gym is dancing." Rikku smiled, "it’s great exercise and fun!" Rikku walked back and forth between the students, calculating in her head how many boys verses girls there was. She was after all really smart, even though it didn’t show on the outside very much. Whoops, more boys then girls.
"Okay now all the boy form a line, and girls do the same. I’m going to partner you off."
Everyone did as they were told and one by one they were paired off.
After pairing about half the students, Rikku stopped. "Just so you know, two of the pairs will have to be both boys."
Loud groans filled the room.
"I’m sorry, but there’s four more boys then girls," Rikku looked back and forth between the boys, trying to decide on who to pair. Great, just what I need on my first day. Whoever I pick will give me a load of crap, I’m sure of it. "Before I pick, does anyone want to be nice and volunteer?"
Sora definitely wanted to raise his hand, but was too chicken.
Riku could tell the new teacher was really worried about this, so he raised his hand, "I don’t mind, but only if I’m paired with Sora. He’s my best friend."
Sora went three shades of red, as he looked at Riku. On the inside he was jumping for joy.
"Phew, good. That’s one pair down. Thanks," Rikku said, sounding thankful. She eyed the room with a hopeful look on her face, "anyone else?"
Wakka was always the type to help someone in need, and it really looked like this teacher needed people who would cooperate. So he’d volunteer. What’s the worse that could happen? "What do ya say, Tidus? Be my partner?"
Rikku beamed, sighing in relief.
Tidus blushed, but shrugged, "all right, but I might step on your feet."
Wakka laughed, "oh well. I think I can handle it."
Rikku smiled and paired off the rest of the class. "Okay now everyone spread out. Boys er . . . leaders put your hands on your partner’s waist."
Everyone did so.
"I’m leading. Is that okay?" Riku asked, looking down at the smaller teen.
"Y..yeah." Sora nodded, shivering when Riku put his hands on is waist.
"Now girls . . . I mean, girls and two boys, but your arms around the boys necks." Rikku watched as everyone did this, glad that so far there was no problems.
"Okay, step up, 1, step to the side, 2, step back, 3, and step to the other side, 4. Repeat. Make sure to dance to the beat." Rikku said, going to turn on the radio.
"1."
"Ow."
"2."
"Ow."
"3."
"Hey, you missed my foot that time. That’s an improvement."
"Shut up, Riku!" Sora blushed. "4."
"Ow, spoke to late."
Kairi giggled, as she and her partner danced.
"What’s so funny," her partner asked? He was a blonde haired kid in the eight grade named Roxas. He was one of the guys that lived on Twilight Town, with the scared boy, Selphie pointed out to Yuffie earlier.
"Those two. Sora keeps stepping on Riku’s foot."
Roxas turned around to look and sure enough, as Sora said, ‘3', he stepped on Riku’s foot, making Riku mutter, ‘ow.’ "Now that’s just cute."
Kairi frowned, "what do you mean?"
Roxas grinned a knowing smile and leaned closer to Kairi, whispering something in her ear.
"NO WAY," she shouted, blushing, when a bunch of people looked her way.
"Yep. Look at his face."
Kairi nodded and did as Roxas told her. Sure enough, Sora was blushing something fierce. He also had a far off dreamy look on his face. Kairi looked at Roxas, "do you think Riku knows?"
"Bet not."
"Well you can’t tell him or anyone. Got it memorized?"
Roxas nodded, laughing out loud. "You know Axel, don’t you." Axel was Roxas best friend. He was a foot taller then him, had red hair, and was in the ninth grade. His trademark saying was, ‘got it memorized.’ It was his way of saying, ‘understand.’
"Hehe, not really. But I heard him saying that once. It’s cooler then saying, ‘understand.’"
"I guess. But after awhile it gets annoying."
"Maybe. But you do understand, don’t you?"
"Of course. I won’t tell anyone, but are you going to? You have that, ‘I’ve got a plan,’ look in your eyes."
Kairi giggled, "well I think my friend, Selphie already knows. She almost said something about Sora, but stopped herself. And I want to tell Wakka, Tidus and Yuffie, so we can figure out a way to get him to tell Riku. Or get Riku to like Sora."
"Oh boy," Roxas said. "I hope this doesn’t hurt their friendship."
Kairi frowned. "I didn’t think of that. I guess we’ll have to be very careful. I’d never forgive myself if I ruined their friendship."
"Yes, very careful. Especially careful about who you tell. You know how fast things get around these islands."
"I know."
A/N Roxas, Axel, and Namine is from KH2. Just thought I’d tell you that, so the people who haven’t played KH2 wouldn’t think they were ocs. Please review!
