April 5, 2002 - On April 2nd our good friend and drummer Dave Karcich suffered from a brain aneurysm and quietly passed away today. There are no words to describe the state of sorrow and complete shock we have been in since receiving the news. Today is an extremely sad day as are the many days to follow. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave's family and friends who he loved and who loved him very much. For the short time we had together he always remained a source of positive energy and will forever be missed.
God Bless you, Dave.
John, who runs a Spring Heeled Jack fan page and a long time friend of Dave's, has set up an email address for anyone who wishes to send their condolences to his family and friends. You can send them to Wishes4Dave@aol.com.
We'd like to send along our condolences on to Dave's family. Avoid One Thing has decided to keep going despite the loss, as they feel this is what Dave would've wanted. Watch out for these guys in your town in the future.
"I think that it comes off sounding as a logical progression, but I would say that it?s our biggest step from album to album. We want to make an album that is different from anything we?ve done before. I think this new record is gonna be a lot darker overall, it?s slower at times and it?s got a lot more variety between songs, but at the same time it?s still very intense. Even with all the darkness, this album has a lot more melody than before, but still a very aggressive album.
About the lyrics? The songs on this new album all tie together - it?s a concept album, based in the future, but not like a science fiction kinda thing. It?s about a group of people who are the most unwanted, least regarded people in society, and they end up banding together and are pretty much fearless and find a big escape from the current state of the government and everything...
Alex Varkatzas, vocalist of Atreyu says, ?This CD will be more progressive than our EP. We are experimenting with new song structures.?
"I am deeply saddened to inform all concerned that botch has decided to quit after 9 years of playing together. The decision, while not completely mutual, is by far the best for all in the band. Personally, I just wanted to thank everyone who has ever put us up for the night, booked us a show, bought out record or put out one of our records =). Most of all though, I want to thank EVERYONE who has continued to support us. I hope that we have done something positive in hardcore, and hopefully have touched some of you on some level. I will continue to answer questions on the message board, and we will keep you posted on when the last show will be. Thanks again everyone, Tim"
